The Path of Devotion, August 5, 2000
This review is from: The Path of Devotion (Paperback)
Here is one of the most profound and clear spiritual texts I have ever read. In a concise 105 pages, Swami Paramananda is a direct conduit for God and for Consciousness. Written when the author was twenty-three years old!, this beautiful gift from an enlightened spirit still shines as brightly today as it did when it was originally published in 1907. It is absolutely amazing that a person so young could have had so much light and awareness. When my life gets a little heavy or the light seems a bit dim and far away and I need to hear God whisper in my ear, I walk past all my other spiritual texts(and I've got a lot of them) and I head straight to this book. The text is a pure nonsecular gift of light from God. From the chapter Devotion: "Love unites God and man...one-pointed love for the Ideal awakens, it comes like a flood and washes off everything,-ignorance, narrowness, fear, doubt, selfishness..." From the chapter Purity: "Unselfishness and purity are inseparable. One follows the other. Through unselfish work the heart becomes pure, and in a pure heart remains nothing but love. ... In the pure heart there is no anxiety or sadness. Let your face be always cheerful, like a child who rests happily in his mother's arms... When the heart becomes pure, we get the vision of our true Self or the Ideal. Our heart is like a mirror... When you have resigned this little "I" (ego), then the great "I" will shine for you and cover the whole universe." From the chapter Steadfastness "Misery and difficulties come at times to strengthen our character. They are like examinations. We must prepare and pass them. Know that they are very good for the formation of character. The more we meet with difficulties, the more we remember our Mother for protection... Truth can never be realized by weak minded people... Never mind praise or blame, never mind what others say or do; move on walk on steadily; being unmoved by either praise or blame. ...love is pure love,-love for love's sake...Have faith in yourself... "He who does not believe in himself is an atheist."... Die like a hero fighting for the truth. That will bring peace to your soul." This is one of the first works by Swami Paramananda, you get a chance to look inside his heart when he was a young lad and see his soul and you know that he became an even greater light as the years went by. This book is Pure Truth. To the publishers; get off your behinds and reprint this book. You hold a great key in a sacred trust, it is your obligation to humanity to publish this work or give up your right to do so! This book is not about making money, it is about freeing the human soul. Publish it!
