Diving for Pearls,

This review is from: The Path of the Mother : With the Divine Guidance of the Holy Mother, Ammachi (Paperback)
My husband and I both loved this book. After eleven years with Ammachi, we recognized our path to the Mother in these pages. Ammachi is like a vast ocean holding many treasures and Savitri Bess has surfaced with pearls. Bess brings many years of spiritual practice, psychological understanding, knowledge of the goddess tradition and her own travels in India to nuance her subject. She also offers other examples of Divine Motherhood to enlarge our understanding of who Ammachi can be for us in our time. Charming stories, well-written. EXCELLENT choice of quotations from Ammachi herself. Two thumbs up!

This review is from: The Path of the Mother : With the Divine Guidance of the Holy Mother, Ammachi (Paperback)
I read many spiritual books from varying perspectives, but find that I resonate most with those coming from Eastern traditions. This book was my official introduction to Amma, and what impressed me the most is that the author, Savitri Bess, did NOT shy away from the fact that the spiritual path is a painful one, as it necessarily deals with the Shadows in one's psyche which are home to the personal demons.
Spirituality necessitates that one confront the unpleasant parts of the self, and this experiences is often more frightening and disturbing than most would like to think. However, the healing that occurs as a result of these encounters that are triggered by earnest spiritual practice, far outweighs the discomfort of the trial itself. However this process is either only hinted at, or glossed over completely in most texts written for Westerners. This book not only includes some great exercises that anyone of any level of spiritual experience and practice can incorporate into their lives, but talks frankly about the shadows that the increasing Light exposes. Of course throughout the entire book there are amazingly inspiring stories about Amma that will captivate any reader. And the meditations, instructions for beginning (or expanding) a devotional spiritual practice, and practical exercises for exploring one's psyche are easy to understand and implement, yet powerful and effective. I highly recommend this book for those who want an uplifting and truely honest look at spiritual practice and progress.

Very Beautiful work on the path to the Divine Mother,
This review is from: The Path of the Mother : With the Divine Guidance of the Holy Mother, Ammachi (Paperback)
The author has done a great job in tracking the path to the Mother aspect of God- The Divine Mother . She has used as her fundamental example her own experiences with Ammachi, the Great Saint from South India who is widely revered as a modern day Embodiment of the Divine Mother. Very nicely written book, full of love and very nice pictures of Ammachi.

Book should be called Path of Savitir not the Mother,

This review is from: The Path of the Mother : With the Divine Guidance of the Holy Mother, Ammachi (Paperback)
Having seen Amritanandamayi (Ammachi) every year since 1987, I found this book to be disappointing. There is too much me, me, me, I, I, I, in this book. The book is too much about this author's emotional problems and how Ammachi's influence affect her. Why would anyone be interested in this person? She's not famous or anything. If you want to know more about Ammachi and her influence on people in the world I suggest buying the well written book: Amma, Healing the Heart of the World.

Nothing Devine or Holy in this book. Run as fast as you can before the Kali demon gets her tentacles in.

Om Amriteswarye Namah! The Path of the Mother: With the Divine Guidance of the Holy Mother, Ammachi, written by Savitri L. Bess is fabulous! I hope to convey to those who have not yet read it the awesome power and love within its pages. This book is profound! From the first word I was engrossed and became encouraged. Savitri, with Mothers divine guidance, was successful in helping me take my first baby steps onto the path of the Mother, and so far it has been an inspirational and awkening spiritual journey. The book introduces the reader to The Divine Mother not only in Her beloved form as Sri Sri Mata Amritanandamayi, but introduces us to Her in the forms of several other female divine beings. By the books middle, all fear and anxiety within me about experincing God as Mother had dissipated. I knew God was validating, and even urging me, to seek Him out as a Her, and now (by Her grace), I am able to worship Her as BOTH Him and Her! They are equal to me as they are One. Not only does Savitri pack this incredible book with the biography's of other female sages, but she gives us tangible, insightful and helpful art projects and writing projects to aid us in bringing out some of our deeply supressed inner thoughts and emotions. I am so incredibly thankful to Mother for inspiring Savitri with this work, and I am thankful to Savitri for allowing Mother to use Her in this fashion. I know that each person who reads this book will derive from it exactly what The Divine Mother intends. --Beneath Her Lotus Feet-- |
