On June 3rd, 2009 I quite accidently met Paul V. Niemeyer at the Wilmer Eye Clinic in Johns Hopkins HospitaL, Baltimore, MD. When the nurse called out, "Mr. Niemeyer" we both stood up. We were sitting across from each other. It was there that I found out about the author and his book, A Path Remembered. It's a wonderful biography about Gerhart and Lucie Niemeyer as well as an excellent piece of research on the "Niemeyer" name. Even though our two families are originally from nearby towns in Germany, I was disappointed to find that my ancestors are not the same ones as are in Paul's book. This fact really became evident when I read his family tree which traces that side of the Niemeyer name back to the year 1512.

A PATH REMEMBERED is not just a biography. It's an adventure!

An interesting coincidence regarding our two separate families though unknown to us both.:

My father's aunt wrote a book about her life, too. It is also listed on AMAZON. It's an autobiography of a young blind girl who attended the Maryland School For The Blind in Baltimore in the early 1900's. This book is an exciting and interesting story of her life as she lived it.

I will be sharing my edition of A Path Remembered with other family members who are anxiously waiting to read my copy.
