Book Description

October 1, 2000
This authoritative, yet accessible exploration of dressage training looks at how the similarities and differences of the various theories affect the sport as a whole.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

During her extended career in the dressage ring, author Penny Hillsdon noticed an apparent schism between "classical" and "competition" riding, with individuals tending to segregate themselves into one category or the other. She also became aware that this division often frustrated and confused amateurs, who wished that the two systems of training could somehow be combined. While Hillsdon herself believes that such a union is unlikely, she has written a book that seeks to clarify many of the differences between the philosophies while simultaneously highlighting their similarities. Much of the book comes from extended dialogues with top trainers who represent the two main schools of thought, among them Conrad Schumacher, Reiner Klimke, Sylvia Loch, and Franz Rochowansky. Penny Hillsdon is a competitive dressage rider and co-author of "All About Lungeing" and "All About Long Reining."
