Best Comprehensive Pharmacy Review Book Available,
By Robert Hammond, PharmD (rehrph@ix.netcom.com) (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Comprehensive Pharmacy Review (National Medical) (Paperback)
This book is excellent for use in pharmacy school, board review, or in practice. All areas of pharmacy practice are covered. Next to Facts and Comparisons I reach for this book to answer questions I have on any drug topic. Try finding which ingredients are the best for sun protection in the PDR. This book concisely provides the information you need.

Brilliant!,

This book is a Godsend! I was given the opportunity to write the Evaluation Exam for the PEBC in Canada and I had no idea where I was going to get all the information I needed to study. This book is really a 'Comprehensive Review' of what was done at University (and sometimes, what was NOT done too!). There are a few errors in the text which you should keep in mind (don't accept everything as truth without questioning statements occasionally. If you are wide awake, you will spot them. All in all, a brilliant book.

Only good if you already know what's in it,
By Samara (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Comprehensive Pharmacy Review (Paperback)
Not a BAD book, but not a GREAT one. The first few chapters are very good actually, but when you get into the medications and physiological systems, it does not help a lot, and if you don't already know 50% about the subject, it does more bad (in confusing and frustrating you ) than good. It would be best to have a basic pharmacology book at hand while reading the later chapters. What is even more disappointing and frustrating is that there is not much new in the new edition, some chapters are rearranged, combined ... but there is very little new knowledge. A very clear yet simple example is that there is no mention of one of the most prescribed drugs there is, Viagra, in the review... (or other drugs in this category). Knowing that this information is missing makes you wonder all the time: what else is not there? Another frustration would be how compact some of the information is. A lot of information is packed into small tables and you wonder if you need to know all of this or not ... and then you go to other references and see half a chapter covering the condensed data ... you wonder how should you spend your limited studying time. To sum it up, if you can get your hands on the previous edition, you would be saving yourself a few dollars ... and if you plan on buying this one, you might want to have other studying aids at hand.

Great but Needs a Revision,
This review is from: Comprehensive Pharmacy Review (Paperback)
The book is great in that it covers such a wide variety of topics and provides basic knowledge that are essential for a pharmacist, while it explains each topic concisely. It helps me a lot. However, the topics are not logically aligned. On the one hand, similar descriptions appear in more than one chapter, on the other hand, some chapters contain multiple, rather unrelated topics. Sometimes the book is difficult to understand: some drug names, units (mesh for injection purification), formulae (clearance), and seemingly contradicting explanations. The book would become even more helpful if its contents are reshuffled, some alleged typos and editing errors are resolved, and an index is added. Also, the book would shine if it acquires more detailed knowledge of drug metabolism.

This is a good book to prepare for FPGEE. But there were questions in FPGEE December '06 I have never saw anywhere in this book. This book does not cover Economic, Social, and Administrative Sciences much.

Nice book,
By Tj. "Tj." (New york) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Comprehensive Pharmacy Review (Nurses' Handbook of Health Ass) (Paperback)
The term "drug of choice" is very popular in pharmacology and i don't think i'm wrong to say the book of choice for FPGEE is comprehensive pharmacy review. I Passed my FPGEE with score of 103 with the help of this book. It was quite helpful and contains precise and useful information on almost all the relevant topics you need to study for the FPGEE. All you need is 3 months of study and this book to pass the FPGEE.

This review is from: Pathophysiology: Concepts in Altered Health States (Hardcover)
Best book on the subject, goes hand-in-hand with Guyton's book. Common pathologies of each system or organ is described sometimes with nice colored pictures. Explanations are very simple and easy to understand. Each system is first explained in terms of structure and physiology and than followings chapters in that section takes on pathologies of the system or its components, number of chapters depending on the system complexity. It is a perfect book for pathology or parallel book with physiology to understand physiology with its applications.

disease at it's best,
This review is from: Pathophysiology: Concepts in Altered Health States (Book with Self Study Disk) (Hardcover)
As a graduating student in Homoeopathic medicine this is without a doubt the best general book I have read so far in this field. It uses a great variation of diagrams, charts, pictures and text, thus allowing for differing styles of absorption. It's subjct headings are broken into logical chapters and the recent addition of chapters for infant and elderly pathology is a fine improvement. The text is friendly and well written but remains professional. It also come with an A drive disk carrying a basic exam based round the books content. This is the first book I would recommend to students starting in this field.
