Medical Student, MSIII,
By David Shepherd (Glendale, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pathophysiology of Heart Disease: A Collaborative Project of Medical Students and Faculty (Paperback)
Greatest heart pathophysiology book I have found. The book gives you a firm grasp of heart physiology and uses that to build your clinical and pathophysiology of disease knowledge. And, it's brief. If you don't have time for Braunwald's this is the next best thing. I'll never get rid of it.

Better than Robbins - an excellent book for cardiopathophysiology,
By J. Michael Stevenson (Valhalla, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pathophysiology of Heart Disease: A Collaborative Project of Medical Students and Faculty (Paperback)
Dr. Lilly and company present the ins and outs of heart disease clearly, and in down to earth language, resulting in a book that is not only educational, but (almost) fun to read. The compact size of the book makes it ideal for reading on the subway, plane, or in the hallway before an exam. All of the basics that a student of cardiopathophysiology needs are presented, and although I turn to other books first if I have questions on the interpretation of a _specific_ EKG, I turn to Lilly for everything else, including the physiology of the EKG. My second edition of this book is well worn and heavily annotated, and it has a prominent place on my bookshelf - right next to my copy of the third edition, for this is one of few medical texts that I have taken the trouble to buy again when a new edition came out. Robbins is a great book, but it's a huge, heavy tome, and where cardiopathophysiology is concerned, this book beats it by a long mile.

AMAZING,
By Graduating Med Student (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pathophysiology of Heart Disease: A Collaborative Project of Medical Students and Faculty (Paperback)
To put it simply this book is the BEST cardiology book for any medical student wanting to really learn and understand the complex topics that can come up in the field. It breaks down all the topics in simple format and gives you the physiology before each chapter. Not to mention it has all the cardiac pharmacology that you will need to know now, for the boards and then some.

"The Bible",
This review is from: Pathophysiology of Heart Disease: A Collaborative Project of Medical Students and Faculty (Paperback)
My classmates generally do not like buying books in their first two years of coursework, since we are issued coursenotes. I knew, however, that this book was a must-buy when people always made reference to it as "the Bible".This book is short and sweet, doing a great job covering basics like electrophysiology, the theory of the ECG, atheroscleorsis, coronary artery disease and MIs, congestive heart failure, and pharmacotherapy. One reviewer mentioned that this book will not let you just up and interpret ECGs, which is true. However, that takes quite a bit of practice and goes beyond this book's scope. What the book does do is provide a good explanation of some basics principles underlying the ECG's use that makes their interpretation a little more intuitive, rather than just looking at arbitrary squiggles. This book is the real deal, and should be up on your shelf with other big names like Harrison's and Robbins.

A must read book,

This review is from: Pathophysiology of Heart Disease: A Collaborative Project of Medical Students and Faculty (Paperback)
Written by experts and new graduates it is very helpful. Every aspect of Heart diseases is explained. I enjoyed a lot explanations of ECG forms and reasons behind it. Unlike those books that says if you see such and such shape you have this or that. Every pathophysiology of hearth diseases is clearly explanied with simple explanations. Book does not say much about performance of the heart muscle as you probably have seen in physiology books but practical understanding is plentiful.

Excellent for medical students,
By "junk@rsiegel.com" (Bronx, NY) - See all my reviews

This book is the best cardiology text I have ever encountered for me (a medical student) to learn cardiac physiology and therapy as well as pathophysiology. I referred to it during all four years of medical school, and, now that I'm graduating and selling most of my preclinical books, it's one of only three that I'm not selling.

You can overcome!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pathophysiology of Heart Disease: A Collaborative Project of Medical Students and Faculty (Paperback)
Before I read this book, I felt poor at cardiology. But this booked help me to conquer!! I especially recommend the chart of cardiac medication. You can understand how they work. This book is really really worth purchasing. You can also understand how the tests such as echo, ECG and catheter are interpreted. Unfortunately, the ECG chart is not enough for most students because it is too essential, I think, but even though it is a very good book. Must buy!

Best Book for Cardiology,
By
This review is from: Pathophysiology of Heart Disease: A Collaborative Project of Medical Students and Faculty, 4th Edition (Paperback)
This book is #1 on my Top 10 List of All-time Best Medical Texts. I first read this book as an undergraduate during the summer after anatomy and physiology. I might have understood about 5% of it since my medical vocabulary was limited, but I was able to read it because of the clarity of its prose. I read it again in PA school and fell in love with it because it explains the 'how' and the 'why' underlying cardiac physiology and pathophysiology. Most texts I read simply state the facts and do not explain 'how' a disease creates clinical manifestations, 'how' an invasive therapeutic intervention is performed, etc. This book does all of that, and does it in a clear and succinct manner. The only shortcoming of this text is its EKG section; it is simply an introduction to EKGs and is not sufficient for learning how to interpret them.

Excellent resource for MS-II,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pathophysiology of Heart Disease: A Collaborative Project of Medical Students and Faculty, 4th Edition (Paperback)
This is a well written text, which can be read - and more importantly, understood - in a couple of days.
The text does a nice job of reviewing the physiology of the heart, in the context of each disease process. It repeats important points of the physiology throughout each chapter, such that you've got a generally good understanding of the reading by the time you finish the book. Lilly also provides enough pathology and treatment content to give a full picture of each disease. It does not, however, give extremely detailed pathology on each topic. For a second year medical student, this text was sufficient to master the content of cardiac pathophysiology. I would strongly recommend it for that purpose.

Excellent ready reference for cardiology!,

This review is from: Pathophysiology of Heart Disease: A Collaborative Project of Medical Students and Faculty (Paperback)
This book is quite easily the best text I have seen in breaking down cardiology into easy to comprehend and absorb topics. As a cardiovascular technician, I have used this book on numerous occasions to either better understand a patient's pathological condition or to help me prepare lectures and classes. I feel it does an excellent job of compiling the necessary knowledge, while making it very readible. Other cardiology standards, such as Branwauld's and Hurst's may cover some topics better, but Lilly and Co. do a great job at summarizing each subject. My personnal favorites in this book are the chapters on murmurs and heart sounds, congenital heart defects, and cardiovascular pharmacology (the best review on this potentially mind-boggling topic I have seen). I most whole-heartedly (no pun intended) recommend this book for any and all who are involved in the field of cardiology. Makes a great desk reference and at a price that won't burn up your account.
