More About the Author

The third of four children and an introvert from the start, Jason Tesar grew up as an imaginative "middle child" who enjoyed the make-believe world as much as the real one, possibly more. From adolescence to adulthood, his imagination fed itself on a diet of books, movies, and art, all the while growing and maturing--waiting for its opportunity. Then, during a procession of monotonous, physically laborious day-jobs, his imagination leaped into motion, bringing together characters and locations of a world that would someday come to life on the pages of a book.

In late 1998, Jason made his first attempt at writing, managing to complete a whole scene before returning once again to reality. A year and a half later, a spontaneous night-time conversation with his wife encouraged him to take his writing seriously and to keep on dreaming. Over the next seven years, Jason carved time out of the real world to live in an imaginary one of epic fantasy, science-fiction, and military/political conflict. The fruits of this labor would later become the first three books of the bestselling AWAKENED series.

Due to the overwhelming support of readers around the world, Jason has continued his trajectory into make-believe, recently jumping from stable employment in the micro-electronics industry into the mysterious abyss of full-time writing.

Living in Colorado with his beautiful wife and two children, Jason now spends the majority of his time fusing the best parts of his favorite genres into stories of internal struggle and triumph, friendship, betrayal, political alliances, and military conflict. His fast-paced stories span ancient and future worlds, weaving together threads of stirring drama and intense action that provoke reader comments such as, "I couldn't put it down," and "I'll read anything he writes."

Jason currently has eight published novels, two combined editions, a short story, and a reader's companion. All are available in ebook format (most in print as well). And the list is growing ...

- Awaken His Eyes:The Awakened Book One
- Paths of Destruction: The Awakened Book Two
- Hands to Make War: The Awakened Book Three
- Combined Edition: The Awakened Books One through Three
- Seeds of Corruption: The Awakened Book Four
- Hidden from Men:The Awakened Book Five
- Foundations of the World: The Awakened Book Six
- Combined Edition: The Awakened Books Four through Six
- Incarnation: Wandering Stars Volume One
- Manifestation: Wandering Stars Volume Two
- The Making of Incarnation: A Reader's Companion
- Emit (a short story)

I was surprised when I read book 1. It was free and not usually the type of story I choose. I enjoyed it enough to buy books 2 and 3. I also made the mistake of buying "The Awakened: A Wondering stars novel". I say mistake as the Wondering stars book is actually books 1, 2, and 3 all in one.
I give this book 4 stars and the series also. Wonderful fantasy tale filled with twist and turns and unexpected events.
Either buy the entire book as a whole, or by the book 2 and 3 and take the free book one.
You will enjoy them.

If there's one drawback to the second installment of most epic trilogies, it's that they're plodding. It's necessary; the stage is being set for the crescendo of the ultimate installment, but many times, the second books seem drawn-out and beleaguered by tedium.

Thankfully, Book 2 of Jason Tesar's The Awakened is able to set the epic stage for the inevitable final sequence of conflicts between Kael and the disciples of Uriku without resorting to such tedium. Yes, there is substantial plot and character development, but the pace of this installment is brisk and isn't plagued by the gravity of most other epics.

What is most intriguing in Book 2 is the continuing moral ambiguity surrounding both the Orudan Empire of Kael's childhood and present and the monastic, martial training of his adolescence: the true moral value of each side is still very much in the air, which only adds to the dramatic tension. Hand-in-hand with this is the moral haziness with which Kael himself operates: though he is developing as an honest and duty-driven warrior, he still squares off against his former comrades, with whom he had no gripe save for their association with Uriku and their warfare against Orud. Continuing the theme, Orud's imperial strength has been built on the back of the institution of slavery, so an additional moral facet includes the fundamental questions of justice.

Few of these issues actually see resolution in Book 2, which is fine; that's for the final chapter. As it is, Book 2 packs plenty of action, some terrific combat scenes, and the same theological, moral, and anthropological depth Book 1 contained.

This will be quick! I read the first book and absolutely loved it! I immediately started the second book and finished it within a matter of days. I didn't stop to write a review because I was too busy reading book three. I am now about 80% done and will most likely finish it today. I cannot even begin to express how much I love these books! As with book one, I HIGHLY recommend book two!

I have to say that after reading the debut of Jason Tesar, I was excitedly anticipating the second book, The Awakened: Book Two. It starts with a cryptic opening scene with Aldair and leaves the reader still questioning the fate of this character. Then the book continues with the narratives of Kael, Maeryn, and Saba. You are going to have to be patience with this one.

It completely starts telling the narrative of this book without answering this reader's blaring questions from the first book. The majority of this read was frustrating to me... ignorance was not bliss to me. The characters were less dynamic that the first book but so much more familial. From around 23% to 85%, Mr. Tesar, sets up his story like a master illusionist, giving this reader what I thought were random and pointless stories.

As with everything in natural, it has symmetry. Symmetry he reveals in his own time. When I got to the end it reminded me of the line in the Matrix, Know thy self. It felt like I didn't recognize the symmetry until I was ready for it to be revealed to me.

As I read it on a Kindle, my patience was rewarded the last 15% of the novel. This is where the three narratives start to come together and get excitingly compelling. It's like eating the brussel sprouts to get to the French fries and steak. Everything I read before was needed to get to this point. But once I got there all the frustrations of the middle 62% are alleviated and forgiven.

What I wanted to happen and what did was shocking and surprisingly pleasantly different. It ended on a high note that invigorated my wanting to read the third novel.

I stumbled onto this series of books completely by accident (because the first book was free) but so glad I did. I read all 3 books in 3 days as I could not put them down. The detail, level of imagination, the excellent writing and the promise of more to come are all winners. Definitely recommended.

"The Awakened: Book Two" is the second book in "The Awakened" trilogy by author Jason Tesar. This is a Kindle only book and this e-edition was a 993 Kb download.

General theme (no specific details given)

After a brief encounter with Adair at this book's beginning, the rest of the story follows Kael, Maeryn and Saga. These three characters have separate paths, but it becomes quickly apparent that their destinies will merge sometime soon...either at the end of this book or early in the third and final installment.

The Pros:
1.) this interesting story continues; enough action and intrigue to keep those pages turning.

2.) easily read, using uncomplicated language.

3.) I felt that the general writing quality of this book improved over the first installment, e.g. author Tesar has a definitive knack for writing truly engaging action scenes e.g. battles, chases etc. However...see Cons: 1.) below

4.) maps...some very good maps with embedded links within the text.

The Cons:
1a.) I felt that some of scenes of quiet conversation and reflections were often awkward and seemed somewhat forced.
1b.) unfortunately I once again I had the feeling that there was a degree of 'fill'...of areas being dragged out, especially in the latter third. This was NOT as prominent feature as in the first book.

2.) the believability factor...examples.
a.) the sinking of enemy warships with rocks thrown from cliffs. Rocks that were only as big as someone could pick up with two hands. What amazing aim!...What fragile seagoing vessels!
b.) time and distance with regards to traveling. I was confused about the amount of time it took to to get between places by boat.
