5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Metal CD February 4, 2011
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Simply the best music I have listened to since the last Circus Maximus. This band is really dynamic and every component of their music is top notch. Excellent detail and layering of the various guitar and keyboards with the bass and drums. The singing is a nice blend of melodic and heavy, without the growling that I hate (but is so prevalent today). The album is concept oriented, but each song can stand on its own. I cannot wait for their next CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars A power/progressive gem... January 29, 2011
By J-bird
Format:Audio CD
Anthriel's album 'The Pathway' is a good album for those power/progressive metal fans looking for more groups similar to Symphony X, Adagio, Circus Maximus, etc.

The album features good song writing, very good production, and musicianship that is stellar. While the band hails from Finland, singer Simo Silvan has no accent to his vocals while singing. His voice is clear yet powerfull, very similar to Tomorrow's Eve singer Martin LeMar or Cloudscapes singer Mike Andersson. Guitarist Timo Niemisto will undoubtedly be compared to Michael Romeo of Symphony X, though Timo Niemisto's playing is maybe a bit more sedate than Romeo's. Still, there are a lot of very cool riffs on the album, good guitar solos, just excellent talent.

I read on their web page that the 'theme' for the album was inspired by RA Salvatore's Drizzt stories 'The Dark Elf Trilogy' about someone realizing that their life choices were wrong, and then setting out on the Pathway to righting their life.

You will find no references to Drizzt or dark elves, magic, dragons, etc. though if you are worried about cheesy lyrics. No cheese here. Just great metal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just awesomeness January 21, 2013
Format:Audio CD
I am always on the lookout for great metal bands and while I am a heavy metal fan, I also do enjoy power metal among other genres.
Usually most power metal songs from the new bands have awesome opening riffs and melodies but the vocals let us down.

This band has an amazing mix of vocals and instruments...If you love melodic heavy metal with clean vocals please give them a try. You will be glad you did.
Just hear the song "Chains of Misery". You will be blown away by the intricacy. 5/5!!! and will watch out for more from these guys.

A true classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Majestic Prog Metal Symphony X style!!!!! November 17, 2010
Format:Audio CD
WOW,what a great Disc!It has been hard to find this kind prog metal lately. The clone police might sound the alarm on this one for sounding so much like Symphony X,but man this is better than their last one, in some ways. (paradise lost)This is band from Finland about thick walls of guitar riffs, crazy odd time signatures, great classical influenced piano/keyboard work, above solid bass and drums on epic songs. With a great singer who has a powerful lower end but still sing high with lots of emotion. Now I must say,I normally hate the accent of Finish singers, but this guy Simo Silvan is amazing to listen to,with no apparent accent. The disc has a great Heavy but beautiful flavor to it with guitar and keyboard solo trade offs.( not unlike Symphony X or Adagio)I think this Cd is based off of some fantasy novel. A must own for neo classical prog metal fans!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff indeed March 5, 2011

Short and to the point. All of the other reviews pretty much have it nailed. And the review that says the singer sounds like Martin Lemar from Tomorrow's Eve, yeah he does....and that's a good thing.
