2.0 out of 5 stars Miss something at the very beginning, February 19, 2004
By A Customer
I was throughly enjoying the Brides of the West series until I got to this book. I am sure the rest of the story would have been great, but I could not get through the beginning for the story began to just tell a different past than what happened before. Such as Dylan was the one to bring the girls from Missouri when actually in Glory it was Jackson. Again it mixed Glory story with Ruth when Patience refer to Ruth shooting an elk and covering her and Dylan with it. It is as if neither Glory's or Ruth's story was told. They blended the two. After that I just was not into the book. The book lost it's appeal. I returned it to store for my money back I may read it sometime in the future but not right now.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is a RECYCLED story, folks!, November 23, 2004
In reading "Patience", everything seemed sooooo familiar, like I'd already read it. When female convicts were hired to work in the mine, that did it! That's a pretty unique story development, so I was convinced that Ms Copeland, instead of giving us an original story, had recycled one of her older ones, and sure enough, she did--this is the SAME story as "Someone to Love" from 1995. Characters' names have changed, and the minor detail of how the girl obtains the mine, but that's it. What a rip-off! I'm disappointed in Ms Copeland.

4.0 out of 5 stars solid inspirational western romance, March 14, 2004
In 1873 Denver City, Colorado, a kidnapper abducts Patience Smith mistaking her for bride to be Lenore Hawthorn when the good natured lass agreed to don the wedding dress for its final fitting. Sheriff Jay Longer follows knowing the icy wintry mountains makes for a freezing dangerous trek.

Perhaps it is the hand of God, but the horse carrying the thug and Patience missteps throwing both humans to the ground. Patience gets up in an instant and flees into the frozen wasteland. Could God be guiding her for soon she finds shelter in the Mule Head gold mine. Inside she finds eight year old orphan Wilson as cold and scared as she except that Patience believes God is with both of them. They walk the forty-five minute trek to Fiddle Creek. In the town she tries to obtain help with excavating the gold from the mine she just left, but no one will dig in what has been cursed and haunted. When Jay arrives, Patience tries to persuade him to help her and Wilson with the mine. As the believer and the doubter fall in love, Jay wonders how someone so devout and optimistic could care for an acrimonious loner like him. Perhaps that is God?s miracle.

Though the pious Pollyanna seems overdone if pure faith can ever be overdone, fans with patience will enjoy this delightful ?Brides of the West? novel. The sixth book in the series stars an intriguing lead couple whose belief in God is so opposite that the audience knows that only divine intervention could bring them together in spite of their love for one another. Fans of inspirational western romances will enjoy Lori Copeland?s uplifting tale.
