This review is from: Patience and the Porsche (Hardcover)
Val Sgro has written a most delightful little organizing novel! In addition to being a very entertaining book full of organizing tips for the masses, this book is very much an `insiders' story.
Here's the first paragraph: Pat turned to look back into the living room as she always did as she left for work. Her eyes noted the collection of shoes sitting just inside the door, skimmed briefly over the wilted plant in the corner, and rested for a moment on the remains of her light breakfast - a half-empty teacup and a plate of cookie crumbs - on the dining room table that was visible beyond the living room. Her mind's eye noted regretfully the eggshells that should have been sent down the disposal still sitting in the kitchen sink and the jumble of recipes she had left sitting on the counter. Then Pat turned, pulled the door shut behind her, jiggled the knob to make sure it had locked, and headed toward the garage. And she concluded her departure preparations with her usual thought: Why am I going out to organize someone else when I should be staying home and organizing myself? I am certain that every PO has had that thought at least once! And that is just the beginning. Val continuously and humorously keeps presenting our heroine, Pat, as a mirror for other POs - from the happily married woman who fantasizes about the handsome next door neighbor with the Porsche to the dilemmas of being a luncheon speaker to the many copious notes for the book she will write `someday'! By introducing a Professional Organizer as a fictional heroine, Val also shows the world the character and personality most of us possess. Sincere, kind, not-so-perfect folks, who strive to make the world a better place by helping our clients to re-make their worlds into the peaceful, serene place they desire. Get this book as a gift to yourself and read it now! It will bring many smiles and giggles into your life. And who couldn't use more of that!

A lot of fun for everyone,
This review is from: Patience and the Porsche (Hardcover)
Patience and the Porsche is a fast read that combines intrigue, romance, fun and a whole new perspective on the organizing profession. It offers something that is missing from many of the organizing television shows and articles about organizing: insight into the mind of both the professional organizer and the client. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the process of organizing. You'll find it inspiring and motivating.

The Professional Organizing industry has finally arrived--we now have a novel written about us! And better still, it's written by a Professional Organizer. Val Sgro has provided readers with a "behind the scenes" view into the organizing world. I loaned my book to my Mom who enjoyed it and gained a better understanding of what POs do. I highly recommend this book to all POs (both new and veteran) as well as anyone interested in the organizing process. Val has created a fun, easy, and worthwhile read.

This is a great little read -- totally entertaining and nicely paced without a single dull passage. Informative, too ... If you're not careful, you'll find yourself doing a little organizing on your own ... if Patience, the professional organizer, can reform her "hopeless client", the reader will surely find ways for self-improvement as well.

As a writer and professional organizer myself, I was highly entertained by this humorous, yet motivational story. If you are looking for entertainment, and organizing tips rolled into one, this is the book for you.
Val offers insight into the mind and thoughts of the client and the organizer, as they progress, all the while telling an original story that entertains and touches the heart. It's easy reading, you won't want to miss.

There are many how-to-organize books on the market. Here's a unique read that provides a look at how fictional organizing professional Patience Oaktree worked with a chronically disorganized client. If you like mysteries and romance books, you find some of each in this quick read. When you finish the book, you may find yourself making an appointment with a professional organizer or using the advice Patience Oaktree gives her client.

Ditto the previous reviews! I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It is a light read but thick with a bloodless mystery, whimsical reflections on marriage, precepts for organization and storage, sly jokes, and hope for all of us procrastinators. I found myself ruminating on the various subplots long after racing through the story. After I finished the novel, we recycled it through my family so daughters ages 15 and 10 also enjoyed it.

Witty, Fun, Series Potential,
This review is from: Patience and the Porsche (Hardcover)
Patience and the Porsche is a great read! I so much enjoyed Patience's character. Being a professional organizer myself, I especially found the storyline a blast to follow. Sgro has done a superb job of developing both the characters and story in this book and I can see how this could easily become a series of "organizing tales in the life of Patience - the self-proclaimed best organizer in the state"! I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys some adventure, intrigue, humor, and fun.
