To Win the Lady's Heart, He Has To Be A Patient Man,
By Avid Reader "dswhung" (Hong Kong) - See all my reviews
This review is from: THE PATIENT MAN (MEDICAL ROMANCE S.) (Paperback)
Dr. Harry Paradine, consultant to St. Luke's Emergency Department, had remained a bachelor despite the best efforts of his friends to find a wife for him. He was a patient man, sure the right woman would come along. His ideal wife appeared in the person of Sister Emily Prince, a newly appointed nurse who came from City Central, a famous London teaching hospital. She was lovely , efficient and cool and he fell head over heels in love with her at first sight. However, she kept him at arm's length. There was a vulnerability about her and a wariness of men. Undaunted, Harry set out to thaw her and win her heart. Bitter experience taught Emily to distrust and avoid men. Her father was an irresponsible and brutal man who had abandoned the family. Her mother brought up her brother Tim and her. Some months ago, her mother had been killed in a car accident and Tim injured. In order to take care of her brother, she now opted to change to this provincial hospital in Chellminster.Besides her father, her ex-finace was another cause for her sadness and bitterness. Mark callously ditched her because he refused to have anything to do with Tim after the accident. His betrayal hurt Emily deeply. Harry Parradine patiently courted Emily , taking care to give her breathing space. It was an up-hill struggle. Luckily, fate intervened. They became neighbours ; Harry and Tim became friends and Harry guided and helped him in his recovery. His patience , gentleness and sensitivity paid off when he and Emily finally went from friends to neighbours and finally lovers. I enjoyed the story very much. It is closely-knitted and flowed smoothly. There is no earth-shattering romance or roller-coaster emotions but gentle wooing by a mature and sensible man who was able to help his lady love lay ghosts of the past to rest. |
