Another great addition to the series!,
By Melanie (Iowa, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Patiently Alice (Hardcover)
I've been a fan of the Alice series for over three years, now, and every year I anxiously await the next release. I was not disappointed with Patiently Alice this spring - far from it! Covering the summer between 15-year-old Alice McKinley's 9th and 10th grade years, this should be popular with fans and newcomers to the series alike. Alice's mother died when she was very young, so she's excited that her dad is finally marrying her English teacher from 7th grade. Alice and three of her friends, Elizabeth, Pamela, and Gwen, decide to be assistant counselers at a summer camp for three weeks, however, soon before the wedding. Alice and her friends have a lot of fun, trials, and tribulations at camp, but when Alice returns home, so many things have changed. The wedding is postponed, her 22-year-old brother Lester is considering moving, a friend is having family problems, and she even hears from her ex-boyfriend, Patrick. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes very realistic, humorous reads about life for a teenage girl who is not-so-perfect but somehow relates to all of us. Be sure to read the othes in the series, and if you still want more, try The Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot or the Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging series by Louise Rennison. Enjoy!

Great Book,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Patiently Alice (Hardcover)
I have been a faithful reader in the "Alice" series and when I read this book, I was definitly not disappointed. I have read every single Alice book and I still find it interesting. This book was escpecially good to me because it involved tons of new guys for the girls to fight over and have fun with. I also liked that the girls were in a different environment than what they usually were in, that being a coed camp. This book was touching and fun. I even laughed out loud, which I hardly ever do in books.

A Wonderful Book,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Patiently Alice (Hardcover)
This book was really good. It's about When Alice and her friends take jobs as assistant counselors at a camp for messed up kids. Camp Overlook is one of the best things that happened to Alice. She makes wonderful friends, makes a diffence in some kids lives, and at the same time manages to stay just friends with all the hot boy assistant counselors. Elizabeth is getting sizzly with hottie Ross, Gwen is getting down and dirty with Joe. Overall, Camp Overlook counselors are learning about love and friendship.

So good,
By Emily (Columbus OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Patiently Alice (Hardcover)
This has got to be the best book I ever read (and I have read a lot) Ben and sylvia's marrige is postponed Elizabeth the saint toys with the decision whether or not to have sex, and the girls in her cabin at the end are still far from being one big happy family as Alice hope's. when she comes home Patrick of all people calls on Alice for help! Luckily some things do go right. Alice gets some sights indeed from the male counselers at camp. I would like to write all but their is just so much more.

Okay....not the best,
By A Customer
This review is from: Patiently Alice (Hardcover)
I am a HUGE fan of the Alice books, but I guess I was a little disappointed with this one. It seemed like the author was just randomly throwing in problems to make the book interesting...but the problems were all fixed by the end of the book. It really bugged me how the wedding was postponed (problem #500) and all of a sudden it was like, "Oh, okay, we'll just hold the wedding in October...problem solved :)." I was hoping that some of the problems would continue into the next book so that everyone would just be hanging until the book was in stores. All in all, this Alice book was good, but not up to the usual standards. Wait 'till it comes out in paperback.

A consistently excellent series about a very real heroine...,

The summer between ninth and tenth grades is a memorable one for Alice McKinley -- she's spending three weeks as an assistant counselor at a camp for underprivileged children, and anticipating the wedding of her widowed father and her former teacher.
But as always in Alice's life, things go wrong, and the unexpected is completely expected. Her young campers -- black, white, Hispanic and Asian -- are full of prejudice and problems. Her older brother Lester announces his plans to move out. And worst of all, it seems the long-anticipated wedding is being postponed, as Alice's new stepmother's sister becomes seriously ill. Why can't things ever go smoothly?! Despite it all, Alice maintains her sense of humor -- as well as her sense of adventure and curiosity -- as she and best friends Elizabeth, Pamela and Gwen tackle their individual and collective hurdles during an unforgettable summer.

My "Best Friend" Alice,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Patiently Alice (Alice Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
I certainly recommend this book. I connected to Alice, as many people could, too. I felt like she was one of my best friends and I knew so much about her. All teen girls would enjoy reading this. It is about real problems and things that happen to them as well. After reading this, I want to read another in this series very much because I want to know what will happen next. This really was an awesome book.

Patiently Alice[my review],
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Patiently Alice (Hardcover)
I thought that Patiently Alice was a really good book because it teaches teens and children a lot of different things about life and making decisions. The book was a good length to read, it was funny,sad,exciting,mysterious...ect. I really would recommend this book to any young girls that are becoming teenagers. Its funny because happy things you thought would happen, happen unexpectedly. Its sad because its hard for little children to be away from mommy and daddy for a long period of time, and its mysterious because you dont expect somethings in life to go the right or wrong way.
The best part of this book was when all the kids who were homesick or thought they were "all that",change. For example, there is this girl who throws another girls shoes up on top of a big sign.So the counselor makes both of them go get the shoes and then shake hands and be friends. Then another girl is homesick until everyone starts making weave baskets. See you learn two lessons; Not to be rude or you wont have very many people that want to be your friend, secondly, always wait until you know what's going to happen, before you get upset. It has many lessons you learn in life. The story elements that stood out to me were conflict and resolution. The times that conflict stuck out was when Estelle and Latisha were always fighting because Estelle was racist and Latisha was a "smarty pants".Another was when Alice and Patrick broke up, Patrick wanted to go back to Alice but she didnt feel the same. The resolutions that stuck out to me was when Estelle and Latisha got in a fight, and Estelle threw Latisha's shoes over a sign.Well the counselor Gwen told them they both had to get them down and then be friends and shake hands afterwards. In the end everyone was more mature and everything turned out great!

Another Beloved Book,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Patiently Alice (Hardcover)
This book is one of the best books I've ever read. I would recommend this book to girls in puberty, or confused girls in high school. Though, it doesn't matter if that's not your case.
The plot is an exellent one with excitment and glory. Also it is one of the many books in the series. Alice has decided, for summer vacation, to go to a summer camp for younger kids as an assistant councilor. She goes with her good friends Elizabeth, Pamela, and Gwen. Though she's excited about going, she is torn about wanting to stay home with her dad, a fiance. He will soon get married to Alice's high school algebra teacher, Sylvia. Anyhow, she goes to this camp, Camp Overlook, and finds out it's coed. The more she hangs out with the boys, the more she realizes that she's not interested in romance. She finds out, though, that someone is interested in her! Camp soon passes by, but when she comes home, she finds out that a lot of things have gone wrong. One of which, that contians Sylvia. To find out the ending of this splendid story, read the ending book of the beloved series, Patiently Alice! |
