Product Description

TOMATO: Tomatoes are rich in vitamins and antioxidants, and the seeds are high in fiber. The green parts are mildly poisonous, which is not surprising, as tomatoes are closely related to both nightshade and tobacco. The tomato was originally believed to be poisonous when introduced into Europe, and was used solely as an ornamental plant during the 16th and 17th centuries. The first traces of its use as a food date back to the first half of the 18th century. Tomatoes are now a tasty ingredient in many dishes, and are used fresh, canned, stewed or even sun-dried.

Just for Containers -- Big Yields of Succulent Fruit! Bushy plants are covered with big 8-ounce tomatoes at the height of the season, making a striking sight in patio containers and entryways! The University of Florida developed this variety just for the home garden, with a compact habit ideal for containers, patio culture, or small-space gardening. It's a great combination of big fruit on small plants, and is as stunning as an ornamental as it is delicious! The big, bright red, smooth-skinned fruits weigh between 8 and 12 ounces each, measuring 3 1/2 to 4 inches in diameter. They are firm and crack-resistant, with good uniform coloring and terrific juicy-sweet taste.

I am very pleased with these patio plants. I ordered via standard shipping and they arrived in 4 business days, well in advance of the estimated delivery time. They arrived in a white priority mailing box....and they are in very good shape. They look quite healthy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Small but healthy., May 9, 2009

These are the smallest of the tomato plants I ordered. They seem very healthy though and I seem to have gotten a couple of extra starts-there are two "doubles" in the tray. I will just have to plant them together because I probably can't get them apart but that's OK. I'll give them extra room and food and hopefully I'll get extra tomatoes:) I ordered these in April and had them delivered in May. They came in a priority mail cardboard box with the other tomatoes I ordered packed in "ghost poo" packing peanuts and are in good shape.
