4.0 out of 5 stars At Long Last January 28, 2008
By Nagatha
Rather than giving all the information I have on Ms. Patricia Brooks here, I shall suggest that one might wish to use a search engine to locate her obituary and perhaps more details regarding her amazing career (s),tragically cut short by MS at the age of 59. I am not a professional musician by any means, but I feel I can guarantee that the opportunity to hear her only recorded classical work is going to surprise and entrance those who appreciate excellence in the operatic world. Do yourself a favor and pre-order this CD; you will not regret it. As an aside, I think I should mention that the sound quality of the recording is less than one would wish, but in this case, one must take it as it comes or nothing at all. That is the reason for my only giving a four star rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Find March 24, 2009
I give this a full five star review simply because it was sucn a thrill to once again hear the voice of one of the most enigmatic and talented people I have ever encountered. Many years ago I had the enormous privilege of hearing Ms. Brooks sing Rigoletto with Placido Domingo and Louis Quilico in Vancouver, and not more than a year after, hearing her once again in the role of Manon--also in Vancouver and also with Domingo. In my life since then, I have seen many operas, in Canada, the USA and in Europe--I have seen many wonderful singers, and marvelous productions--but never has anything come even close to what I saw when Ms. Brooks was on stage. Aside from the sheer beauty of her voice, she was electric on stage, always in total control of what she was doing, she moved with grace and beauty incomparable--I honestly believed that this lady was going to eclipse the world of opera, and indeed am still convinced that she would have had life been kinder. In spite of the technical difficulties with this recording, was not intended for release I am sure, it is still worth every penny it cost, and has become one of my own treasured possesions--just to hear that radiant voice once again, something I thought was never going to happen. On this CD she tackles a wonderful variety of sound--some showcasing her coloratura ability, all showcasing her intelligent understanding of music and the absolute brilliance of her voice--big when she wants it to be, soft and lilting when needed, always done with the mastery of one who clearly loves what she's doing. Needless to say, I highly recommend this CD to all--and fervently hope that perhaps in the future her husband and son who were able to put this out for us are able to put out anything else they may have access to--it would truly be wonderful to bring this amazing lady out of the shadows and let more people hear what she had to offer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Less audience noise March 26, 2008
I enjoyed Ms Brooks singings immensely. It is unfortunate that apparently the recording was made on site with microphones away from her so that the crowd noise and applause is "upfront". I wonder if that could not have been removed in a more effective way. Still, I am happy to have the recording.
