A Little Gem.,

I have come to appreciate author Cheryl Reavis. At best, her stories can be bona fide gems, allowing her readers the chance to truly savor the joy of reading.
Release Date- October 1990 Back Cover- All his life, street-smart Johnson Garth had lived side by side with crime. And something about fellow officer Patrick Gallagher's death in the line of duty just didn't add up Garth had his instincts, but he needed evidence -- intimate, inside evidence. Only one person could supply it . . . the quietly gritty, pretty widow Jenna Gallagher. But satisfaction didn't come easy. Jenna met his maverick tactics with a muleheadedness all her own, trading cool quips for his brutal questions, fierce privacy for his pushy probing. Worse, just when she seemed about to cave in, intense, lonely Garth realized he wanted more than just answers, more than just a killer. He wanted Patrick Gallagher's widow herself. My Review- Cheryl Reavis does a fine job with this story. It is a soft, gentle romance with a masculine hero and vulnerable heroine. Sigh, my kind of romance characters. However, the rating slipped to an "A minus" simply because the story's crowning pages were ruined by a massive jumble. Suddenly, too much concluding rattle replaced PATRICK GALLAGHER'S WIDOW enjoyable easy pace. It seemed the author decided a potpourri of detail should close her story. Why? On a Different note- There are times, when several books in a row bring nothing but a "reading struggle" upon which, I either bail out or I joyfully welcome the end. Agonizingly, during these periods of drought, I wonder: is it me, have I become too "jaded?" Then presto I pick up yet another book and suddenly my reading bliss is gloriously restored. This time, PATRICK GALLAGHER'S WIDOW was my salvation. Cheryl Reavis is an outstanding storyteller and PATRICK GALLAGHER'S WIDOW certainly provided me with hours of entertainment AND really can a reader ask for more?
