Format: Hardcover
Saviour Pirotta and Linzi West have crafted a delightful tale in "Patrick Paints a Picture," a story of a boy and his aunt who work together to paints real-life nature scene. Along the way, the book teaches readers all about colors, and how to mix those colors that might not already be found in their paint set.

The two are out for a picnic with their pet dog, amidst a giant cornfield. Aunt Emily suggests that they (her and the boy, Patrick) paint a picture of it. Patrick gets out the yellow paint, but they soon find they'll need more than that. A succession of colorful animals appears, each requiring a different color. As the story continues, the animals enliven the scene, building towards a fun twist ending.

This is one of the more nicely illustrated picture books I've seen lately and it has a great story that goes along with it. I would definitely recommend it as as basic book for teaching about colors, or for anyone who enjoys looking at well-designed picture books.

I bought this book to use in a 2 year old classroom. I thought it would show the children how a child would paint what he saw. But his painting was not what a child would paint, but just like the original scene. I think I might change the last page myself!

This is the perfect book for little ones learning about colors. Patrick and his Aunt Emily are sitting on a shaded hill over looking a cornfield. As Patrick sees various animals in a variety of color, he wants to add them to his cornfield painting. With easy to read words, and engaging, fun illustrations, this has become a favorite read in our house.
