Compassion compendium,
By Chalice Wells (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Patrick Swayze: One Last Dance (Hardcover)
In a time where every celebrity gets a scandal-ridden tell-all, especially if they are just dead or perhaps about to be, this is a refreshing, compassionate read. Although it touches on the current and seemingly intractable suffering Patrick is going through, it concentrates on the bravery, strength, and originality of character he has showed all his life, the stuff that real biographies are made of, the essence of the personality and the deeds that will live on when there is no more to be said. Congratulations to the author for choosing the high road (the road less travelled, these days) and giving us a picture of the whole man, the whole life...

Patrick Swayze: One Last Dance
I've been a fan of Patrick Swayze since I saw him in "Dirty Dancing," and was thrilled with this biography - which I was lucky enough to buy when I was in New York a few days ago. First of all, although I thought I knew all there was to know about Patrick, the book continued to surprise me on page after page. His mother turns out to be a fascinating character, and the chapters on her dance studio, where Patrick grew up, were riveting, in particular all the interviews with the dance students who grew up with Patrick there. And amazing to read the memories of some dancers who were actually at the studio and witnessed Lisa and Patrick's first meeting! Loved all the amazing detail about his time in New York, his early years in Hollywood, all the inside stuff from the set of Dirty Dancing, Ghost and all his other movies, and was deeply touched by the sensitive and compassionate way in which the author ended the book. I can't recommend this book enough to Patrick's fans and anyone else who is interested in him

Patrick Swayze was my first celebrity crush, and I couldn't help but buy this book. Unfortunately, it was pretty terrible. The author's writing is stilted and she makes bizarre comparisons to Harry Potter and Bridget Jones. She does have some interesting tidbits here and there from people who encountered Patrick at work and in life, but they are not enough to make the book worth the money. If you want a good tribute to Patrick Swayze's life, read "Time of My Life" by Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi. It is a far superior read and has just as many great photos and many more insights about show business.

I could not figure out for many pages why I found this book so distasteful. Then I realized: I assumed this was a biography in which the person being written about had actually participated in the process! Instead this is nothing more than a fangirl book with interviews culled from a few lesser players in Swayze's life and a heavy reliance on past interviews and articles. This book is a huge disappoint with an excessive use of pop culture similes that are grossly out of place. Skip this book and buy the autobiography instead. If you are a Swayze fan, you have probably already read the information in this book.

As a life-long fan of Patrick, I was most anxious to read the biography of this fascinating and terrific actor.
His current physical struggle saddens my heart, and I pray that he will continue to beat the odds that are stacked against him. The book did a great job of portraying him and his rise to stardom. I look forward to an autobiography that the author has eluded to in her book.

Patrick Swayze: One Last Dance
I just finished this book and can't recommend it highly enough to anyone who cares about Patrick and admires him as much as I do. It may not be authorized, but no good biography ever is. And this one is the very best. I am sure that when Patrick reads it, he will love it. It is well researched, well written, and a true tribute to Patrick.

I read this book after reading His & Lisa's book. This book has insights of more of what his family & friends have to say about him. The writer has caught the True Man of Patrick Swayze, and his wife Lisa. It is a very good book. It has a lot of pictures of him and his family & friends. She has written about and told the stories that his costars and friends have known and LOVED him. I like the way she starts out the book with the birth of Patrick and His mom. It also has a chapter about his father and sister that died and how it affected him. I laughed and cried when reading the different parts of his life. He gives a lot of credits to his family and friends. I really enjoy a book that tells the inside of a person and what their feelings were and are.
It is a shame that she did not get to have Patrick's insight and comments before he left us. I know that i have a better understanding of him and his family for reading this Great Story. It is well worth every $$. Read You Will Love It. And I ( like I said before ) read it last. Both books go together. Thanks Patrick for being such a great actor, loving husband, son, brother and most of a very kindly gentleman and shearing your life with us. ALL my prayers to YOUR LOVE ONES. I MISS you, looking forward to all your great movies on DVD & TV. Now you can say to "Lisa" instead of "molly"....LOVE.

A tenderly written journey of one man's life. Ms. Leigh writes with a delicate touch, tracing the footsteps of a brave human being .

did anyone check the facts at all?,
By M. Butler "M. Butler" (Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Patrick Swayze: One Last Dance (Paperback)
I agree with the comment of fellow reviewer JP French. If you are going to write a book, please check the facts. This books has several facts in it that anyone who has seen the movies Dirty Dancing & Ghost even once, should know. Shame on the author for writing a book that is supposed to be factual and the most minor of facts are incorrect. Case in point: Demi Moore was not Patrick Swayze's wife in Ghost. They were discussing marriage right before he was killed. Case in Point: When Patrick makes his first entrance in Dirty Dancing - it was not the "son" of Max Kellerman that is lecturing the waiters, it is Max Kellerman himself. Also, Neil was not Max Kellerman's son - he was his grandson. Come on - this is very disappointing. How do we know anything else in this book is factual? Very irritating to know I spent $25 on a biography that could well be fiction. Should have stuck to romance novels. I least I know when I buy them that they are not based on fact.
