Patrick's Purgatory is obviously one historical novel in a series of books written by J.R. Mc Nally. The focus of the novel is a Catholic priest named Patrick Shannon. His colorful mother was a thesbian named Maude Harrison (Shannon). This novel sweeps the reader through Patrick's ambitions within the Irish Catholic Church, his sense of mission, and hopes for a peaceful Ireland. Terrorism, popular historic events and his character's myriad of personal problems appear and are resolved or disappear in this tale. The complexity of the Irish character ia a theme a reader can contemplate when reading this well written novel. A novel worth the price.
