The only problem with this outstanding publication is that all of the puzzles in it have been previously published in "The New York Sun", so if you already own all the "Sun" books like me and/or solved its daily puzzle religiously when it was around (also like me), you will have already solved all of the puzzles in this book (except for a few that were online only, but those will be published in SUNSET CROSSWORDS later this year). I wasn't expecting this -- and the Amazon page certainly doesn't mention it -- as all the other Puzzlewright single-author collections I can think of (and I own most of them) contained either all-new puzzles, or puzzles that were only published in a newspaper or online, making the collection their first appearance in book form. None of them are just repackagings of already published books. (The exception to this is Peter Gordon's own HALL OF FAME CROSSWORDS, whose puzzles are mostly culled from "The New York Times", and thus have already appeared in their books.) Anyway, I wish I had known that I already owned all the puzzles when I bought the book. Still, after several years, it's not like I can remember the specifics about a lot of them (except for Blindauer's more gimmicky ones), so I've been enjoying myself re-solving them all.

In short, if you do not already own the individual "Sun" books and love crosswords, you need to buy this book. It's that simple. My sole complaint is that Merrell has only two puzzles, which is disappointing. (I guess he stuck to selling his dailies to the NYT instead.) The puzzles will knock your socks off, particularly if you're a themeless fan, as Berry's themelesses are arguably the best in the business and there are many of them in the book. Enjoy!

The puzzles are wonderfully constructed - challenging, witty, and very addicting! I've been a huge fan of Mr. Berry for many years (his "Rows Garden" puzzles in GAMES Magazines are my all-time favorites), so needless to say I was immediately drawn to his works in this book, but I am happy to report that the other Patricks featured have contibuted some outstanding puzzles as well.

If you like crossword puzzles, do yourself a huge favor and buy this book right away!

These puzzles are pure pleasure to work. They are clever but not excessively so, and well constructed, and the paper is good quality .

Patrick Berry is a crossword master. The other Patricks are almost as good. I hate to be nearing the finish.
