Australia released, PAL/Region 0 DVD: it WILL NOT play on standard US DVD player. You need multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player to view it in USA/Canada: LANGUAGES: Swedish ( Dolby Digital 5.1 ), English ( Subtitles ), WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: A married pair of ex-urbanites relocates to a small village in hopes of starting a family, only to receive an unexpected surprise thanks to a mix-up at the adoption agency. Sven and Goran are finally set to realize their shared dream of becoming parents. In preparation, the happy couple even decides to leave city life behind in favor of moving to a quaint village in the country. Unfortunately, the local villagers don't exactly extend a warm welcome to the optimistic couple; while some greet them with outright hostility, most are content simply to shun them. Upon receiving news that the adoption agency was unable to locate a suitable international baby, Sven and Goran agree to take in a local orphan. On paper, Patrik was listed as being age 1.5, though upon meeting their new adopted child it quickly becomes apparent to Sven and Goran that someone misplaced a decimal point. In reality, Patrik is a homophobic 15-year-old juvenile delinquent who's none too happy about being taken in by a pair of aging gay men. Still, Goran recognizes that Patrik needs a home, and agrees to put the openly hostile boy up until he and Sven can find a more suitable place for him to live. But former street punk Sven isn't quite as accommodating due to the fact that he knows well what a young ruffian such as Patrik may be capable of. Over time, Sven's trepidation about Patrik prompts him to confront not only his own misgivings about marriage and suburban living, but his long-buried feelings about his own estranged son from a previous marriage as well. ...Patrik, Age 1.5 ( Patrik Age 1.5 ) ( Patrik 1,5 )

Sweet, Sad, Funny - A Must See November 21, 2010
By C. Clay
Format:DVD
This film is really worth your time. It's about family, about bonds, about love and relationships. It's about neighbors and community. It's about respect and prejudice, and changing the way people think and act. The story revolves around a gay male couple recently moved into their suburban home full of 'traditional straight familes'. Intent of adopting a baby, a mix-up occurs and they end up with 15-year old Patrik - troubled, and abused by a failed adoption/foster care system. This homophobic young lad unintentionally wrecks havoc on the home life of Goran and Sven. As the film unfolds, we learn just how much an open-mind and giving heart can change the way people think. With dramatic moments, the story adds just enough laughs - so at worst, you may be laughing through your tears. I won't give away the ending, but at least it's as positive as it can be without being too 'Brady Bunch' perfect. The movie is a reminder to us all in this day and age that there is no room for hate. Love comes from withn and is infectious. The movie is in Swedish with English Subtitles.

This is a very well balanced movie, not too much "family" like, Sven and Goran are a gay couple and you can "see" that, but they are also an ordinary couple, with the desire to build a family (or at least Goran has). To be "right" for the Social Service clearance, they move in a even too perfect neighborhood, that to me resemble an "American Beauty" nightmare, and it reminded me a bit of Desperate Housewives, even if the set is in Sweden and not USA: Goran, the "wife" of the couple (Sven goes out every morning to work in the city while Goran remains in the suburbs) tries with all his own to mix to the other housewifes, and some of them welcome him as one of them, some others try to seduce the new "available" man, even if he is not so available.

The plot is intelligent and funny, and very, very romantic. It's probably even better since nor Sven or Goran are perfect: Sven's faults are more evident, former alcoholic and bad boy, he is probably not ready to be a father even if he loves Goran; on the other side Goran is so absorbed by his dream to be a father that doesn't realize that maybe Sven is not on his same track.

Very good movie, highly recommended.

lovely film January 9, 2010
Format:DVD
I saw this film at the Palm Springs film festival and can't wait for it to come out in USA format so I can show it to my teenage kids. In excellent dramedy form it touches on many societal themes while portraying a couple trying to adopt a child. Some of the themes: the ambivalence that sometimes comes into major life decisions when one partner desperately wants something and the other goes along with the decision, complexity and dysfunction in families, alcoholism, romantic love, parenting, exploitation of young people, fear of the unknown, homophobia and inclusion despite the minority of homophobes, forgiveness
