5.0 out of 5 stars Great ram, needed some tweaking

1.0 out of 5 stars defective product-worst customer service ever
One of the modules became unresponsive after 2 weeks of normal use. The computer started to have blue crash screens couple of times a day. Returned the product to patriot memory 17 days ago and have not heard from them yet or received my replacement (or my defective memory). I am at a loss on what to do next.

My suggestion:
1) Don't buy from patriot...

This review is from: Patriot Memory 'Sector 5' G Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 PC3-10666 1333MHz CAS 9-9-9-24 Dual Channel Kit PGV34G1333ELK (Personal Computers)
This ram was part of a package deal that i found on newegg. The ram was paired with AMD board and processor and the rest of the essential components. The ram is tested with intel and as such gave me some trouble with my AMD setup. A quick email to the patriot tech support and I'd overclocked the ram via their specifications. With AMD it seems (at least in my case) you have to up the voltage and frequency.

I ended up setting the frequency to 1600MHz, 9-9-9-24, and 1.65V.

Have not tried changing the timing.

Overall a great buy, don't be too surprised if you spend 1/2 hour getting it set up properly for an AMD system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Set of Ram, January 3, 2011

This review is from: Patriot Memory 'Sector 5' G Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 PC3-10666 1333MHz CAS 9-9-9-24 Dual Channel Kit PGV34G1333ELK (Personal Computers)
I just built a new Core i7 System and used these RAM sticks. I am extremely pleased with these sticks. I have my system overclocked and these sticks are running at 1531Mhz at 1.65V. I have run memtest and prime95 and these sticks have been extremely stable.

4GB is more than sufficient even for hardcore gaming and benchmarking, and I will stick with this pair. I got 7.7 in the WEI score under Windows 7 for memory.

Patriot is a great company for RAM, and they continue to deliver.

5.0 out of 5 stars very Satisfied, February 12, 2010
This review is from: Patriot Memory 'Sector 5' G Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 PC3-10666 1333MHz CAS 9-9-9-24 Dual Channel Kit PGV34G1333ELK (Personal Computers)
I am very pleased with this memory, it worked on my ECS motherboard with the new AMD phenom II /x4 955. Right off the bat.

no problem so far, it was rated 5.9 by Windows Vista, I might buy another pair of them, on my next purchase

bought this for a computer I was building, I already had 2gb but i have 4 slots so i figured another 4gb should do the trick. i found this with the mail in rebate and it was just too good of a deal. Right now im overclocking the memory and its working like a charm. i couldn't be happier. my computer is blazing fast and the rebate was a nice little surprise in the mail because i had forgot about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Memory - Great Price, May 27, 2010

This memory saved my new PC which was restarting and reporting memory errors with the PNY memory that I initially installed. This memory is fast and appears to meet spec's. I have over clocked this system (2.9GHz) to 3.3GHz with air cooling and it
runs perfect. As a rule I don't run my machines Overclocked but when testing a new machine I thought it could show me the
weakest link in my system. Obviously it is my CPU, but still 10% Overclocking without increasing voltages & with air cooling
is pretty good. I have read reviews from several folks that were able to go past 3.5GHz with this AMD processor just by jacking
up the voltages.

Great product and great service from AMAZON......

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb value and performance, April 14, 2011

For my gaming build pc, I knew that for the motherboard, hard drive, and power supply I could not skimp or go low end on those. For the RAM, you could afford to dial down the price a little bit.

For $45 you get:
- 4gb RAM. For now, 4gb of RAM is more than enough to do fulfill your everyday computing needs, gaming, web surfing, and editing. A couple years ago 2gb would be enough, but now 4GB is starting to become the standard. A few years down the road the 4gb standard may shift and increase. Consider buying a motherboard that supports at least 8GB of RAM.

- Great value. I've done a few comparisons to other 4gb RAM sets like Corsair, PNY, and\ Skullhead, I see no noticeable difference when it comes to performance. I only could see a difference when using RAM that is twice the price of Patriot RAM. That's when you see the difference. The Cosair dominator series RAM is more efficient and quicker at using the RAM effectively. But realistically, you only need high end RAM just because you can. Thus, why pay $75 - $100 when you could pay $45 (with heat shields) for 4gb ram? I'm getting similar if not better performance when I'm running all types of games.

- Great performance. My PC got a 7.3 windows score, which was the same as my processor score (AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE). I'm not completely certain, but the performance of the ram and full potential could also depend on the processor. Don't hold me to that, as it's just an observation.

- The aluminum heat shields are nice and sturdy. The difference between decent ram and good ram are the heat shields. In the long run, keeping the RAM cool is key to prolonging the life and performance of the RAM. A cool set of RAM is a happy set of RAM.

- Fairly quick and responsive. Games and editing are more graphic intensive and I've felt no hiccups thus far running games like Counter Strike source, Call of duty: World at War, and GTA IV. The RAM simply does what it needs to do: provide the energy to run these games.

- Everyday tasks like web surfing and word processing are the tasks that really use up the RAM. Thus far, programs that may use significant levels of RAM have ran quickly. I wouldn't call it blazing fast, but I rarely feel any waiting time or lag when I'm loading a page, youtube video, or using Microsoft word.

**When comparing to different brands, I see that computer brands can make sense of different RAM companies. Corsair is like Apple, delivering performance and reliability often at a high price. People are willing to pay more. PNY is like Dell, often good performance but there are several products that suffer due to the drawbacks from emphasis on appearance (among other reasons). Crucial is like Compaq, offering extremely low prices but rarely delivering med to high end products. I see Patriot RAM like MSI or Asus a few years back. Good performance, and the RAM fits right in the middle between low and high end RAM, since it does offer more than just the bare hardware, such as the aluminum heat shields.

Overall, great price and value. I'm very pleased with the performance of the 4gb Patriot RAM. Don't pay more when you don't have to!

Memory is difficult to review, but these sticks are just fine for the average user. The heat sinks are not the best I've seen, but overall, it's a good deal.

RAM works very well with the HTPC I am building. This is my first purchase of Patriot RAM, and have had no problems with it. I'm not sure if the funky design at the top of these chips is integral to its performance, but they are certainly nice to look at.
