Cathy is still caught in the left right/R+D paradigm. She has some nice ideas, but wake up and become a Libertarian or classical liberal or at lest a Jeffersonian before it's too late.

Our country has so many problems combined with so many special interests. I for one have felt that the pile is just "too high." I have felt defeated even before I start to look for solutions.

In Patriot Acts" Catherine Crier speaks plainly and with great logic. She takes us back to early decisions, walks us through the underpinnings of each issue -- whether it is corporatism, tax injustice, faulty Supreme Court decisions, unenforced regulation, neutering of regulatory authority, party partisanship, personal agenda -- I could go on.

By taking these issues apart, into their separate pieces, Catherine helps us to understand that , in many cases, the fix, although daunting, is rather simple -- if we have the courage to demand the necessary change.

By far, for me individually, Catherine speaks to the power of the single individual that, when combined with others can become the instrument of positive change. This in itself persuades us to action.

The willful combination of Government and Big Business has evloved over time and rather than "potentially" replacing proper governance and regulatory restraint is already here.

It is now up to us to reverse the process and as Catherine says: "Instead of taking back our Government, let us take it forward."

Bill LaMarche, Kirkland, Washington.

5.0 out of 5 stars "A Patriot Chooses Country", November 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Patriot Acts: What Americans Must Do to Save the Republic (Hardcover)
Catherine Crier has set out with Patriot Acts to warn us and inform us with one hand, and put America on a sustainable course, and spark debate with the other. As the esteemed, former Senator Bill Bradley, from the great state of New Jersey said, "The number-one principle of the New American Story is that country comes before party. When there is a choice between them, a patriot chooses country." Crier and Bradley choose "country" and want you to also.

Patriot Acts is a powerful light at the end of a long, dark, two hundred and fifty year old tunnel. It is also a bright beacon for an America that could last for two hundred and fifty more years, and beyond that, if we understand what Crier wants us to realize. That much of what made this country great ain't broken and what we need to do to protect it is still within our power.

With Patriot Acts, Crier has carefully and eloquently traced for us the American story all the way back to the principles of the Founding Fathers. Principles that today have become giant balls of tangled wool in the throes of devious fat cats, which are hopelessly knotted and tied together and for all intent and purposes, could potentially be rendered useless unless we act to save our republic. Patriot Acts carefully and painstakingly unravels all the knots to reveal the founders true intentions in what only a short time ago would have seemed impossible to do. No politics, just straight forward American history, business, law, and political science. An American classic.

Crier has focused Patriot Acts in a most clever and ingenious way. She has not simply traced America's roots back to the Founding Fathers and their principles, most prominently, Jefferson and Hamilton, but by going back to the very engine of what makes our country great. Namely, true capitalism. Adam Smith. Wealth of Nations. This is exactly what I love about Catherine Crier's Patriot Acts. It got my brain thinking, my heart pounding and my deep seated love of this country back to where it belongs, front and center.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rediscover True Patriot Acts, November 7, 2011
This review is from: Patriot Acts (Kindle Edition)
Sorting out political fact from fiction regarding the enormous problems this nation faces is a task not many are capable of. Catherine Crier meets that challenge, and exceeds it in her clear, persuasive analysis of the principles of pure democracy in Patriot Acts. Every American would enhance their understanding of what is going on in politics and governance by reading this book. Those who care can thank Ms. Crier for her analysis that makes pure Patriot Acts so important for the future of this nation.

5.0 out of 5 stars True Patriots MUST Read This Book, November 14, 2011

This review is from: Patriot Acts: What Americans Must Do to Save the Republic (Hardcover)
We all know who the people are who claim to be "real Patriots." They are on all of the news shows and their books and faces are everywhere you turn. But, are they Patriots or just opportunists? If they are Patriots, why do they find it necessary to lie, fan the flames of hate, disrespect our President and, undermine the country just to enrich themselves?

Catherine Crier presents an honest, thorough analysis of the government established by the Founders, why it functions best when it is balanced, and the role we all must play to keep our country strong. She says, "In this country, we defend the right of citizens to hold opposing views and accept that our favored positions will not always win out. Our elected officials must be willing to share power and govern with people who see things differently. This is not a matter of civility; it is a democratic "mandate."

As we watch every day as our President continues to do the job he was elected to do, we observe a Congress intent on doing nothing, so that their party can win the Presidency. In the meantime, millions of Americans are suffering and out of work. They cannot wait while Congress plays political games. They should not have to wait. Perhaps if we stop paying Congress, we'll see how fast they decide to put the country first!

If you are tired of not knowing who to believe or what to believe, please take the time to read "Patriot Acts." If you can't buy it, you owe it to yourself and your family to go to the library and check it out. You empower yourself when you know the truth.

5.0 out of 5 stars A critically important book for the future of the "republic", January 31, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Patriot Acts: What Americans Must Do to Save the Republic (Hardcover)
There's no doubt that as 2012 dawns the United States faces numerous challenges that truly threaten its very existence as the "republic" so innovatively established by the country's founders. The current so-called public servants in the Congress on both sides of the aisle fervently believe in the rightness of their positions, with many often making claims that their thinking most closely aligns with the true "intent of the founders." Unlike the politicians who make these claims without a detailed understanding of what the founders were actually all about, Catherine Crier has invested the time to complete the in-depth research necessary to fully comprehend them and their intentions.

In "Patriot Acts," Ms. Crier describes in great detail how the current state of the country is essentially incongruent with what the founders envisioned for the future of these United States. Make no mistake, however, this is NOT an anti-left or an anti-right tirade, this is a brilliantly written analysis by a true patriot who clearly loves the United States, and passionately wants it to survive (and thrive) as the republic it was founded to be. This book is a must-read for any U.S. citizen who truly cares about the future of this country. Bless your heart for writing it Ms. Crier.

A fantastic, to the point, book about the major issues we face as a nation today. Catherine sums it up best, by saying "It is time we demand substance instead of sound bites and facts rather than ideological fantasy." Great book!

A well documented and provocative book by an investigative lawyer/.reporter laying out in detail how the political process in the USA has been taken over by big buusiness whose goals are profit for themselves, not the well being of the Nation. The Supreme Court ruling on corporations being "people" further allows Corporations through AMPACs etc. to influence the decisions of the House and Senate.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Vivid Account of America's Fall from Grace., December 2, 2011
This review is from: Patriot Acts: What Americans Must Do to Save the Republic (Hardcover)
There's no denying the author is sincere, very talented, well intentioned, devoted to the original American dream, and clearly unhappy with the way this country has lurched off the path imagined by "the Founders." She is obviously passionate about her liberal views and presents a massive body of historic evidence in support of America's slide from left to right. Indeed, it seems to me that she addresses in great detail every contentious social and political issue of our 220-year history. Even if you disagree with some, or all, of the author's conclusions, Ms. Crier deserves high marks for the sincerity and effort that she has invested in this book. I recommend it highly for any reader who cares about the history and future prospects for our country.

This book should be paired with Peter Schweizer's 'Throw Them All Out,' to get the full flavor of Cathy the far-left wacko, counterbalanced with Peter the far right wacko. We have two strange bedfellows, united in a desire to take our country back from the people who are running it. Who elected these people anyway? Cathy wants to sit down and have a civil discourse, while Peter just wants the Palace Guards to take their heads. There is some good in both viewpoints. The wonderful thing is that these books are both out there, both heavily noted to public information sources. Let's see what changes we can make.
