Patriot Box Office Wireless USB Adapter,
By

I received this adapter free with my Patriot Box Office. It is a 802.11g adapter, and I had lots of trouble getting it to connect until I updated to the beta firmware for the PBO. After that it connected reliably, though the data rate was relatively slow. It's OK for a 802.11g adapter, but I'd suggest you look at the Patriot forums and look at the other adapters that work. I have gone to an Airlink 101 802.11n USB adapter and it connects at much higher speeds.

PBO needs Wireless-N,

The new PBO adapter is a wireless N. G is too slow for a lot of media, except maybe music or low-quality video files. PBO doesn't have a very large buffer. So really, most wireless NIC's, whether G or USB, are going to stutter. But this was a freebie when I bought the PBO. So I can't complain too much.

I found that the adapter works ok with the Patriot Box Office. I bought it to give the Patriot unit some network functionality. The price is reasonable. It has a Realtek chipset which works with the Patriot. Do some research, there are others that perform better, including wireless-n (has to have the chipset). Don't expect lots of throughput, and it's range is really limited to twenty-five feet (it is wireless-G). It does allow the unit to wirelessly stream media, on a limited basis, depends on file bitrate. There is a problem with the adapter after a while it will "fall partly out" of the patriot box, since it cannot fully seat into the unit (using the rear input--you have to use the rear to make it work). It will sag and I've eventually put a small piece of foam--or a book--under the adapter to support it. 4 for function, 3 for fit.

Worked great with the Patriot Box Office, but only for about a week. Now it will not connect, even when plugged into my laptop. Google search for this adapter and discover the other folks besides myself who suddenly received the "can't get any ssid" message when trying to re-configure the wireless connection. I should have read more about the "issues" with this adapter before I bundled it with the Patriot Box office.
There is a reason why this was being given away for free with the PBO in other stores - it's junk. I am following the advice of other victims by applying the money I would have spend to RMA this fishing weight and getting a reputable Wireless-N adapter.

The Patriot Box Office Wierless G USB adapter worked as soon as I plugged it in to the
Box Office unit and set up the WEP codes. Not much to say other than if you use the Patriot Box Office, this adapter is perfectly compatible, and at only $20, a pretty good deal!

It does not detect many WiFi networks in my neighborhood. It is supposed to use with Patriot media player. The feedback is mixed on the media player discussion forums. I end up not using it with my media player.
