This enclosure looks great and has very fast uploads.

One nice aspect having two halves is that you can drop in a harddrive or SSD and make sure it works before screwing on the other half.

After super easy assembly, I plugged the drive in and it works just as expected.

I was at Fry's today and looking around found this to be the cheapest USB 3.0 case. I didn't need it but I have been wanting to test the USB 3 ports out. So I decided to pick this up and try it out, the box picture looked nice and it was sealed. I have my spare sata drive left over from my laptop upgrade so I thought I make use of that. The case is all plastic, it seems a bit fragile, but once you add your drive and add the two screws it feels nice. It has one small blue LED near one of the top corners that stays on after plugging it into the USB 3 port. The side edge is gray all around, so the drive does look very nice. My Windows 7 pro picked it up and added the driver automatically. So that was nice to see. Just don't drop it because that may be the end of the case.

The down side of this case is that it's a really shiny black on the top and the bottom. It's beautiful but all the dust gathers in my room rather fast, so this won't be like that for long. As I mentioned, it only has two screws on the bottom cover and comes with four rubber feet. Two of the rubber feet cover the two screws, which is nice, but I tend to take my stuff apart more often than I would like so I may not even use them. I can also just stick them farther in from where the screws are to keep those accessible. No biggie, but a minor quirk. The whole bottom cover snaps out so it's a bit tough to take out without breaking it. I haven't broken anything but just feels that way. Unfortunately I didn't think of this before, but this one doesn't come with any backup software or something to mirror your drive in case you want to use this to update your current hard drive. Not a big deal, but it's nice to have something included, but maybe that's why it cost what it costs. Last, the usb cable included is pretty short.

While the case is designed nicely, USB enclosures often include a second USB port (or Y-Cable) for a reason. Many drives demand more than even USB 3.0 supplies in terms of power. For example, a Seagate Momentus XT may power up in this enclosure, but it will not supply enough power at peak demand... and that's a worst-case-scenario for your data.

I picked this up locally at a Fry's for about twenty bucks. It seems to be pretty nice. It has little rubber feet on the bottom, which is nice. I do wish it had an on/off switch though. Also, the USB cable could be a bit more secure (minus 1 star for those two things). Bottom line is it's inexpensive, easy to use and it works. I've had no trouble with the fact that it uses just one USB connection for data AND power.

I bought this enclosure mainly to make use of a 500 GB 5400 rpm drive for backing up and on the move storage.Id highly recommend it - if you don't want too pay high prices for a portable Tunderbolt Drives then this is an unbeatable solution for SSD/HDD/Hybrid Sata ll Drive.

Its plastic but extreamely fantastic lightweight but nicely constructed most of patriots products are ! Its breathed new life into a sluggish 5400 spin drive which I was going to replace with a Hybrid but no need in my opinion transfer speeds are good as is !

Get one and thanks Patriot !

It was time for a clean install of OSX...

My 500 GB HDD was still working fine, but it was the third hard drive to run the same OSX install over a 6 year period. Rather than throw this drive away, I wanted to save it to expand my storage capacity.

Even though my Mac isn't a USB 3.0, I decided to future proof my enclosure purchase with the Patriot Gauntlet. A little more expensive than competing products, but let me tell you, it was worth it.

It took me approximately 30 seconds to insert the hard drive and put in the screws. After super easy assembly, I plugged the drive in and it works just as expected. Very glad I made the purchase.

This enclosure looks great and has very fast uploads. I transferred 212 mb in about 10 seconds. I would give it 5 stars except there needs to be a way to secure the drive better. I could feel it rattle in the enclosure so after prying it open with a small screwdriver I place a small piece of packing peanut inside. This kept the drive from moving around. Otherwise - great product and great price.

Pros:
Just works
Cons:
Scratches easy
It is hard to open and replace the hard drive. May not be a con if you will leave the drive in there forever but now and then I need to put another drive there and it is just a pain

I have over 20k pictures on my hard drive…. when the connector of the hard drive stopped working, I went into panic mode. Luckily, I found this, and it works wonderfully…. Thank you for fast shipping and a great product.
