This review is from: Patriot PVS34G1600LLK Extreme Performance Viper Series PC3-12800 DDR3 1600MHz 4GB CAS 7-7-7-20 Low Latency Dual Channel Kit (Silver) (Personal Computers)
I've been trying to troubleshoot my nvidia 790i ultra sli motherboard for the past 8-12 months. I kept getting bluescreens while trying to play games with sli mode turned on (which is the reason I bought the board in the first place) and after adjusting voltages and tweaking the system to the point where I was about to give up... I finally had an EVGA support member advise me to check and make sure that my ram was on the "790i approved" list. This was news to me... I honestly would have never thought that a specific type of ram would be hated by a motherboard, but apparently mine was... because it wasn't on the list.

Now that I've installed this Patriot Viper ram I can finally say that my system is 100% stable... no more freezes, crashes, or bluescreens... just a great system that does everything that I need it to do. I would recommend this ram to anyone running the 790i ultra sli series boards... and would also recommend that anyone who has a lot of freezes, crashes, or bluescreens to check their motherboard manufacturers data sheet to ensure that your ram is compatible (tested) with the mobo. This was a great buy... wish it was a bit cheaper... but it's worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, January 5, 2011

I ordered this RAM because of getting a replacement motherboard that used DDR3 RAM, and what I had before used DDR2. Installing this RAM is a breeze as it should be these days. The Motherboard saw it as 1066 Mhz RAM. I went in and set it's clock speed to 1600 and voltage to 1.9v and my PC is purring like a kitten. It's worth noting that using this RAM on most motherboards at the 1600 Mhz speed is only advised with 2 sticks at once. That effectively limits you to 4GB with this kit, just an FYI.

I've been running 8GB of this memory for almost a year now on my ASUS P7P55D-E PRO motherboard without issue. My Memory subscore on Windows 7 for this memory is 7.5. I have not tried overclocking it, but I have been very satisfied.

Put together a new computer from scratch for the first time, instead of rebuilding existing units. The major pieces are an Intel DP55SB Extreme mobo, i7 860 processor, 650wd-HD, Sony 7241 DVD-RW, Win7pro64, 4gb Patriot Viper 1600 RAM, Creative X-Fi Titanium sound, and a Sapphire HD5750 card. I bought this RAM way before starting to build, and am not disappointed.

Viper RAM seems fairly priced too. Once I got the system up and running, I went straight to one of my favorite quickie mini games, Half life2: Lost Coast, which has a video stress test to measure frames per second. My 3.2ghzHT XP Gateway with the ATIx1950 always came in at 28-35fps, and ran all the HL's just fine. I dialed it up on the new system and got a whopping 220fps! I had to put my glasses on to see if there was a decimal point in there anywhere, WOW! I didn't realize I was this far behind in the computing world. The next game I loaded up was STALKER, and it did not disappoint me. I have never been able to get this game to run without plenty of chop suey. In fact, it looked so good on the HD5750 that it did not even look like the same game.

I was a little unsure about the fact that I was starting with only two pieces of RAM to get the system up and running, but now I'm glad, because that 12 gbs of excess space has not been needed yet. The system has yawned through everything I've thrown at it. So don't over buy RAM.

I heard this Patriot RAM worked well on some Intel Extreme boards, and it does.
