Book Description

Conscience can be a killer.

A plot to kill a nation, hatched by a secret cabal of ex-cold warriors intent on finishing the war that defined their existence. One man, who in a crisis of conscience, passes information about the plot to his brother, a shattered soul living on the edges of society.

When Kurt Vetter learns of his brother's murder, he has no idea how far he will travel, how much he will sacrifice, in order to uncover the truth. With the help of Amanda Carter, a shadowy figure from his brother's past, he races across the globe, staying one step ahead of a trained assassin, in a desperate bid to prevent the unthinkable from becoming reality.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Esmont can tell an action packed story like you wouldn't believe. The pace is set from page one and never let's up. I was concerned at first that references to the details of the CIA might get a little to detailed and cause me to lose interest but that didn't happen. Esmont definitely found a balance that allows anyone to pick up this novel and enjoy every page." - Jennifer Shaw of Book Noise

"This is a great story by William Esmont, it is fast paced and gripping in areas. It is thought provoking and keeps you entertained. The characters blaze their way, and will be fun to follow in further works. If you like action and spy thrillers you will enjoy this rendition. Well Written, this book keeps you turning the pages. Once started I found it hard to put down."  - Leslie Wright of blogcritics.org

"Despite the non stop action, Esmont has taken care to develop believable characters, providing enough context for the reader to build a sense of their motivations. I did feel Kurt's characterisation could probably have been stronger in that he seemed to move with the plot rather than direct it. His partnership with Amanda puts him in a passive role, particularly in the last half of the novel. I liked Amanda's attitude, when Kurt brings her the information. She doesn't hesitate to do the right thing and is smart and determined. The Patriot Paradox is an engaging action spy thriller that has a great sense of timing. It's a quick and exciting read, sure to satisfy the reader, especially at its bargain price of just 99 cents."- Sheeleyrae of Book'd Out Book Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars Is there a better word than 'wow'? January 24, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
In The Patriot Paradox, author William Esmont takes us on a roaring-fast adventure across five countries as Kurt Vetter tries to understand his brother's death and then stop a rogue CIA element from detonating a nuclear weapon in Moscow.

Despite the break-neck pace, Esmont's story is highly detailed and the characters (major and minor) are very well-developed. There's lots of promising material for the sequel that can't be published soon enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars need to find out what happens November 29, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this book, the depth of the main characters pain from the loss of his family and subsequent brother was very well relayed. The plot grew quickly and sucked me in. The more frustrating part was the cliff hanger at the end... not used to that, used to having everything tied up at the end.

Not sure about the time lines with international flights and abililty to be realistic in our post 911 socitey but still entertaining! Enjoyed the idea of goverment stepping outside its bounds and doing things it "should not".

Suggestion would have been more cloak and dagger ala Jason Bourne style interactions between protagonists.

Looking forward for the next installment and may try Self Arrest to seen the first offering from this new HOT author

4.0 out of 5 stars Waiting for the next episode ... January 12, 2011
Format:Paperback
Great story from a new author. Fast paced action thriller. Lean, get-to-the-punch-line writing style. Can't wait for Episode II of the Kurt + Amanda series. Definitely a good-read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast-Paced Thriller
I received this book via Library Thing's Member Giveaways.

This was a fast-paced thriller. Not quite as fast-paced as, say, an episode of 24, but pretty close! Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars It's a bit ho-hum
