The Patriot Test shows that self-publishing really does have advantages when it comes to getting out up-to-date info on the presidential campaign. Most books sit around for 6 months once the writer or writers are finished and before it ends up on shelves.

This book includes info on the 9/11 Commission and recent changes in the economy, so it really allows a reader to make a comparison with the latest news. I wish there were charts and graphs because I am a visual person, but the book is well-written. The writing team seems to have gone out of their way to be balanced in their portrayal of issues.

The Christian stuff sort of turned me off, but I also found some of it interesting. I wonder how many Republicans supporting Bush realize that so many of his actions don't match up to his rhetoric. I'm half-way through the book, but so far Bush's grades are pretty lousy when examining the economy, national security and foreign policy. We'll see if he does any better on education, family values and the environment.

Tired of trying to follow the many different lines of party rhetoric? I am. So this book is a welcome respite. It is a user- friendly guide that gives historical background on various issues and American patriotic principles and then lays out in a RESPECTFUL way the records and promises of the two major presidential candidates. They are placed in two side-by-side columns to ensure simple comparison and equal coverage. The sources used are bipartisan, as are the authors.

The authors also insert some commentary on Christian principles and how they fit with some of the aspirations of the founding fathers, traditional American values, and the current political situation. The inserts will prove useful or tangential, depending upon your perspective, but since they don't fall into any left or right wing cliches, they provide greater historical and religious context than the predictable Christian rhetoric currently employed in media political commentary.

For undecided voters, or those who want to engage in specifics in political discussion, this is a very elucidating guide. At times, the commentary feels momentarially slanted in one way or the other, but the integrity of the whole is achieved by the back and forth coverage.

Based on the limits of the situation, Bush inevitably gets far more specifics listed in his achievements as well as in the evaluation of the success of his specific initiatives. Kerry's Congressional voting record and promises are covered in equal length, but not always in equal depth because his actions and methods for achieving his promises as a president are a matter of conjecture.

Even so, this book is a good way to see the different strengths and weaknesses of the candidates laid out and to get a view beyond the rhetoric, so readers can choose their candidates based on the "patriotic" principles closest to their hearts.
