From the Author
This volume is not just another Civil War songbook. Well, of course it includes words and music to "Bonnie Blue Flag", and "To Arms" (tune: Dixie), but most of the other eighteen selections are probably unknown today. Each of the "war" songs pay homage to one or more of the traditional trinity of patriotism -- the country, the flag and the heroes. The ballads and comic songs reflect the life of the Confederacy. They all are from the extensive collection of sheet music in the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond. Music and words have been re-entered into computer software, so the printing is crisp and clear. And words of all verses are printed under the music! Four-part choruses have been added to those songs which did not have them. Chords are annotated, acknowledging the increasing popularity of electronic keyboards, and of course the continuing popularity of stringed instruments. In addition to the music, 33 of the original covers are reproduced in the book. These have been scanned into a computer system, and the ravages of time removed. One of the greatest features is the cover, built from one of the few color covers in the Museum's collection. Optional brass-band parts are available.

From "To Arms": Shall that boasting mad invader, trample Dixie and degrade her? To Arms! To Arms! To Arms, in Dixie. By our fathers' proud example, Southern Soil they shall not Trample. To Arms! To Arms! To Arms, in Dixie.
