2.0 out of 5 stars Don't Be Fooled by "Includes CD"
I found this pattern book to be really inspirational. It had a wide selection of patterns and I was excited to see that it included a "CD ROM". That is why I purchased the book, to use the patterns in my own designs for school, personal use, etc.

Make sure to look closely because first of all, it says it only includes "100/113" designs on the CD...

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't Be Fooled by "Includes CD", December 8, 2009
This review is from: Pattern Design: Applications and Variations (Paperback)
I found this pattern book to be really inspirational. It had a wide selection of patterns and I was excited to see that it included a "CD ROM". That is why I purchased the book, to use the patterns in my own designs for school, personal use, etc.

Make sure to look closely because first of all, it says it only includes "100/113" designs on the CD.

I have owned previous pattern books by Rockport (Pattern Sourcebook) and was disappointed when I got home and inserted the CD.. Only to find that not only did it not have any usable files. (It was a flash "interactive" file.) While those pattern books are good for color swatches, it was not what I was looking for. I was hoping this book would be different...

Notice how the book says "The CD-Rom in combination with the book provides a unique tool ofering readers hands-on experimentation..." I know know what they were beating around the bush about when they said... "Experimentation"

The files are all low res JPEGS, while large they are still 72.dpi... Not .eps or vector files which is what I was really hoping for. The high res files included are completely unusable because they're stamped with a huge "All Rights Reserved" watermark. What's the point? The only way I could see myself able to use the patterns are as templates to redraw in Illustrator.

Overall, it's a good book for inspiration and as a template for tracing... but don't be fooled to think the files included are vector format.
