informative and helpful text on neglected subject,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pattern Design for Children's Clothes (Paperback)
it can be hard - to say the least - to find a book about flat patternmaking for chidren. The principles are the same as for womenswear, but drafting a basic sloper without a full set of standardized measurements is quite difficult."Pattern Design for Children's Clothes" includes measurements charts (these are invaluable), as well as clear instructions for styling the basic slopers(bodices, skirts, collars, sleeves, pants, etc...)and grading them. There are two drawbacks; the garment styles illustrated are somehow outdated (too close fitted for today's fashion, in my opinion) and although there are instructions on drafting hoods, the charts do not include the measurement needed (these can be found in 'Childrenswear Design')Apart from that, I'd recommend this book to anyone who wishes to design for children.

Metric and Imperial drafting for sizes 2 to 14,
This review is from: Pattern Design for Children's Clothes (Paperback)
I am interested in historical costuming, and with the birth of my first child, I had to broaden my knowledge base to include children. There are very few patterns out there for children's historical costumes and so I wanted to learn about drafting my own.I like this book for being clear. I like the fact that it has Imperial Measurements in the back, for those who don't like to work in metric. The two pages on grading are a joke. Honestly just look at the grade for the circle skirt, any one can tell you that isn't right! This book covers sizes 2 to 14, so drafting for infants isn't covered, much to my disappointment. If you have basic knowledge of drafting for women's this book won't surprise you too much. This book doesn't cover too much of flat pattern manipulation. I think it is a very good book, nice and small.
