Wow! As I kindergarten teacher I am always looking for books that go along with our curriculum and this fits the bill. The illustrations are wonderful and there is a fun story involved. Each two page spread has patterns, patterns, patterns. I am recommending this book to all the early childhood teachers in our district!

What a clever idea!,

I have heard a lot of teachers say they like this books, but as a parent, I have also found it very valuable. My children have gained a lot of pattern comprehension from this clevely written and entertaining book. Best of all, they don't even realize they are learning. They love the part with the shark at the end!

It may be educational, but it's really fun to read to my toddler too!,

My almost-two-year-old really likes this book - it's fun reading it together and she loves saying "Pop!" It's short and snappy enough to hold her attention. The illustrations are simple but cute. (Sadly, it must go back to the library today, but glad to know I can get it here!)

I bought this for my 6 year old. She loves to read it over and over and find the patterns--she even labels them AB, ABB, etc. I also plan to use it at school to help teach form to my music students. The art is great and I love how the illustrator uses patterns to match the words!

This is one of my favorite pre-k/kindergarten books ever! The illustrations are great, and it's obvious that much thought was put into every page. There isn't just one pattern per page, but there are several. They include patterns by color, by shape, by number, and by size of the same shape, to countless variations of all these pattern types together. What a stupendous learning tool for children; I love it!

I teach K-4 art and this book could not be better for my unit on patterns! The kids absolutely love following along with the patterns as I read. As we look it over a second time, I challenge them to find the patterns in the pictures (the book is overflowing with them) which really helps solidify the concept visually. Administration loves any excuse for the support teachers to incorporate literacy into our lessons so the book really is a perfect fit. Even the kids who are a struggle to get to participate in most things love adding the "POP" and "SHARK!"as we read. I highly recommend Pattern Fish to anyone - fun to read and see the kiddos really getting into it.

This book was recommended by my daughter's kindergarten teacher and we have been reading it every night!
The story line is fun--my daughter loves to shout out the last word of each page and the pictures on each page reflect the rhyme pattern. My daughter loves to say the pattern name (ABAB or AAB, etc.) for each drawing on the page. Great tool for teaching and reinforcing patterns. |
