Sorely disappointed,
By
This review is from: Pattern Motifs: A Sourcebook (Paperback)
While the drawings in this book are beautiful, I cannot use this book at all. The back cover states that the images are copyright-free, but the copyright inside the book states otherwise. I e-mailed the publisher and was told that I could only use the images for personal use, not commercial use. As I had purchased this book to create digital scrapbooking supplies to either sell in an on-line store or give away for free, I needed the images for commercial use. I am very disappointed in this because the images are indeed wonderful. If you want this book for personal use, go for it. But if you plan using it for any sort of commercial work, I do not recommend it.

Great book for crafters,

This book would be great for anyone who likes to applique. The bold pictures are easy to copy. There are many varieties of designs with these chapters: Stone Age Europe, Neolithic Europe, Mesopotamia, Egyptian, Minoan, Mycenaean, Greek, Chinese, Early Celtic, Barbarian, Byzentine, Romanesque, Gothic, Japanese, and Art Deco. I can also see someone who likes to make their own stencils use this book also.

This is a great book for helping generate your own ideas for designs. One reviewer was disappointed that the designs are copyrighted and cannot be used for commercial purposes. Since I am trying to create some designs for possible commercial use, I am using the book only as a source for ideas, that is a "jumping off" place to make an interesting design of my own, without infringing on the copyright. I think this book is a great source of ideas for your own creations, as well as providing designs straight from the pages for personal use. As long as you keep in mind that all the designs are hand drawn and in black and white, and you either want to use the designs in your personal creations or as an inspiration to create new designs, in my opinion you will not be disappointed.

I am a fiber artist and enjoy creating with fabric. Just looking thru the book inspires me and carries me onto new and different ideas. The size of the book reinforces the idea that creativity is endless!

I purchased this book for art ideas, and there are a lot of motifs in here. Unfortunately, many of the designs do not appeal to ME, so I had to give it 3 stars and that is the only reason. Others might like more of the designs than I do. I wish this book had the "look inside" feature.

This has to be one of the worst collections of copyright free or royalty free art I've ever bought. The book is nicely packaged and hefty enough to take out a designer with one blow, but the fun ends there. The images in the book are either poorly reproduced or look like childlike scribblings. I have hundreds of clip art books and this is, sadly, trash. The ONLY book in this series from Batsford that is worth buying is the 4000 Letter and Alphabet motifs. Otherwise, avoid them like the plague.
