I got this book because it was required for a writing class. I didn't spend as much time with it as the syllabus told us to, but for what I did get out of it I think it served its purpose well. It provides lots of writing samples so you can get a good idea of how certain papers are supposed to be written. It offers break-downs of the components of the essays that they show. I think it does a good job at making writers understand the writing process. If you can use it, it's very helpful for beginners and those who just need to refresh their writing skills.

My purchase of Patterns for a Purpose 6th edition came on time as promised and in perfect condition. No problems, no worries. Thanks!

Patterns for a Purpose: A Rhetorical Reader by Barbara Fine Clouse might be the preeminent college English aid. It hones in on every facet of collegiate writing and wrestles it to the ground. With its sample essays, snappy presentation, and organization, it has made a lasting splash in my proverbial pool of thought. It's an immense tool of destroying your ignorance. Totally readable.

I bought this book used from an Amazon seller for a great price and sold it at the end of that semester for almost as much as I paid for it. This enabled me to buy more books from Amazon sellers for the next semester. This has saved me a lot of money in the last 3 years of college, especially compared to the college book store prices. I can get 4 textbooks for what I would have to pay for 1 book at the campus bookstore. This is a great way to survive the costs of college.

i just don't understand why college books are so pricy.
We barely ever use them, and when we do- its for minor studying...
the only books that are worth its value is MATH or BIOLOGY books..(or books in that type of category, where studying is mandatory!)...

O bought this book for my daughter. It was less expensive than through the3 school bookstore.

A few weeks ago I placed an order for Patterns for A Purpose: Rhetorical Reader (book alone). After one week amazon customer care sent me an email that this seller has not responded. I wrote to him immediately to which he replied that he has the bk and will mail it. The time expired before I saw the bk. I think this seller is a waste of everybodys time and you should be aware when buying text books from sellers like him! Buyer beware!

2nd Edition is not currently used in the college course that is being taught. Unfortunately, I needed the 3rd edition
