5.0 out of 5 stars PUT THE CRYSTAL AWAY BEFORE PLAYING THIS CD!
When it comes to R&B divas, there is only one Patti Labelle. And there is only one question that comes to my mind when listening to her on this new Greatest Hits CD, is it live or is it Memorex? This diva has one of the greatest voices in the biz and has to been in any fan's collection. Why? Well, because it not only covers her recent MCA years but also goes backwards...

When it comes to R&B divas, there is only one Patti Labelle. And there is only one question that comes to my mind when listening to her on this new Greatest Hits CD, is it live or is it Memorex? This diva has one of the greatest voices in the biz and has to been in any fan's collection. Why? Well, because it not only covers her recent MCA years but also goes backwards to her Bluebelles days, Labelle and her early post Labelle solo days. This CD should be played from track one to the last to hear the evolution of this great singer. "Over The Rainbow" from Patti Labelle & The Bluebelles '65 Atlantic LP is stunning! Next up we got 4 Labelle heavy hitting singles "Lady Marmalade," "What Can I Do For You," the funky cover of Cat Steven's classic Moon Shadow" & "Going On A Holiday". 2 singles from her Philly International Records period "If You Only Knew" & "Love, Need And Want You" lead up to 9 tunes from her recent MCA years where Ms. Labelle proved that she was still at the top of her game. "If You Asked Me To,""New Attitude," & "Stir It Up" are for me the cream of her crop. Superb liner notes on her career & pix complete this CD package. One thing, when playing this CD as with any Patti titles make sure you put the crystal away and your windows are shatter proof! If anybody can shatter the surroundings, it's Patti!

5.0 out of 5 stars Where Have I Been All These Years?, May 20, 2002
By
This review is from: Patti LaBelle: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
For many years, I resisted Patti LaBelle. While others have revered her as a flawless diva, I held my distance, perceiving her as a theatrical singer with an excessively loud voice. But, one day, I saw the light and recognized the talent that is Patti, and bought this CD. It's like, WOW! This CD is great! The emotion and heart that she puts into these songs is incredible. The touching ballad "Somebody Loves You" will move you to tears, while "New Attitude," despite its dated production, still sounds fresh. Her version of "If You Asked Me to" also outclasses the version Celine Dion would later butcher. Moreover, there's also "Lady Marmelade," the Labelle classic which Christina, Kim, Pink, and Mya would later destroy on the "Moulin Rouge" soundtrack. I am now kicking myself for not liking Patti sooner. She is truly a talented diva who deserves her praise, and I strongly recommend this disc!

4.0 out of 5 stars I would have picked different songs, but it's still all good!, March 24, 2006
This review is from: Patti LaBelle: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I hold Patti LaBelle in the same regard as many hold Barbra Streisand - she to me is THE VOICE. No one can do what Patti can do. I have never heard a woman who has a genuine "third" voice to her range (in men they call it falsetto), and it is truly exhilarating to hear her do a glissando from a low note all the way up to the very top of her range and split your speakers wide open!!! NO ONE ELSE CAN DO THE BLEEP PATTI DOES!! She is amazing!

I only give this CD 4 stars because I have issues with the tracklisting. In my opinion, Greatest Hits CDs should contain only HITS, not filler. And The Bluebelles never really had a major hit anyway. I think she should have had it all PATTI SOLO, with the lone exception being of course "Lady Marmalade" with LaBelle (ya gotta have that!)

Patti had 13 Top Ten solo R&B hits at the time this cd came out and I think that they should have been the focus of this cd and ALL should have been included.

Also, final point, is that it is odd that Patti didn't include a new song on this cd as most people do nowadays - throwing a new song on a Greatest Hits cd to make it extra special! Fact is, this CD wa released in conjunction with Patti autobiography, Don't Block The Blessings, and I think that song, which appeared six months later on FLAME, should have finished off the CD, coming right after one of my favorites, "When You Been Blessed (Feel Like Heaven)".

COLLECTORS - Take note, there are 3 single versions here: Tracks 8, 15, & 16 are the single mixes. So that makes it kind of cool, but I think all the songs here should have been the hit single mixes cuz you can fit more songs that way. But that's just me.

All hail PATTI LABELLE, she is the TRUE DIVA!

Purchase this perfect compilation of that angelic, golden voice, Americas most natural entertainer Patti LaBelle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Patti At Her Best, December 19, 2002
This review is from: Patti LaBelle: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
You know the girl can blow there is no doubting that. This CD gathers together some of her greatest hits. My problem with greatest hits CDs is that some of the better material of the artist is left off and what seems like filler is put in. Although most of these songs are my favorites some just seemed to be filler. But no matter what this child sings you know its all that and a bag of chips.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, September 29, 2005
This review is from: Patti LaBelle: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful collection of Patti LaBelle's best songs and hits. I like how they combined her early hits with the Bluebells and with LaBelle with her '80s and '90s solo hits. It is a breathtaking collection! Patti is just hollering and singing her face off with spirit on all these songs, from Lady Marmalade, to New Attitude, to Stir It Up, to Over the Rainbow and others. One of the songs by LaBelle in the '70s ended up to be the theme music of Queen Latifah's talk show when it was on a few years ago. You're going to be mesmerized when you hear Patti's voice coming out of your speakers.

This review is from: Patti LaBelle: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I am one of the biggest R&B fans, however I have always loved Patti Labelle's music. I especially love New Attitiude, Stir It Up and If Only You Knew. I also love the old songs by her. I listen to this CD a lot when I am driving.

5.0 out of 5 stars SWEET!, May 10, 2004
This review is from: Patti LaBelle: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Patti certainly did have a "New Attitude" when she unleashed
her powerfully vocal synth-soul classic of the same name during
a period when Chaka Khan,Areatha Franklin and Dionne Warwick were all making fine comebacks. Why does Patti stand out?Because like Areatha and CK her voice in INSTANTLY recognizable and she
tends to favor quality material over easy commercial pap.And some of 'em were hits too like the Labelle classic "Lady Marmalade".Also her elan lends itself well to soundtrack work
(such as the vibrant "Stir It Up") and duets (as with her classic ballad with Michael McDonald "On My Own"),both of whitch are here along with a healthy dose of her late 80's and
90's material and all the best stuff from Labelle! And she just
released a new album that's just as good as what you'll find
here from what I've heard of it.So if Labelle's charms haven't
reached you yet, this is the place to come. For any fan in need of
some of her music it goes without saying.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love Ms. Patti Labelle, May 13, 2002
This review is from: Patti LaBelle: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Let me explain to you if you do not know who patti labelle is. Listen she is the #1 diva in my eyes. Her talent speaks for itself. Her powerful but relaxing voice has help me to realized that they is hope for me no matter what. I love each and every song she sang. I am only 21 but there is something about her that has me jamming to even to her back in the day songs. For instances "somebody body loves you baby" ," If you ask me to" ,and "You are friend" are my top three favorites. Hear me when I say this if you don't know her, get to know her and I promise you that you will fall in love with her the same as I did seven years ago.
