Editorial Reviews

Review

"Patti Smith wasn't just a rocker; she was a poet, and a book of her life calls for nothing less than fine art....the book captures her illustrious career in a way perfectly suited for the musician--poetic, engaging, and passionate." ~Chicago Magazine

"Coffee-table books, by definition, aren't meant to be page-turners. Except for this month's Patti Smith: Dream of Life, which isn't so much a glossy centerpiece as it is an addictive pictorial of the godmother of punk's life as a poet, activist, mother, style icon, and all-around kick-ass front woman." ~Elle

"With the Rizzoli imprint, we have come to expect certain things: perfect printing, the highest quality papers, flawless binding, superior layouts and type. This historic book is no different." ~SoHo Journal

This is a beautiful companion piece to the film, Dream of Life. It is huge; 429 photos from the film. And very touching, even if you haven't seen the movie. Worth every penny, especially if you are a Patti Smith fan.

this is a thorough photo montage taken directly from her recent documentary, "dream of life"
the quality of the paper and photograghs are not so great; it has a rather cheap feel to it.
but, because it is a large and comprehensive photo essay, it is well worth it. i enjoyed slowly looking at each photo, taking it in at my own pace which i can't do with a film.

Patti Smith is a true artist. Her body of work stands for it's self. Once hailed the Queen of punk and later a great musician, poet and photo buff. She can amaze you with her often looked over talent. I became a fan of hers in the late 70's. Punk and Harder edge music were choking the life out of music such as Disco. They had a message and were going to get it out no matter what. I was living in San Diego California at the time To album covers stuck out at me - Springsteen's Born to Run and Patti's Horses. To this day I still love them.

The Dream of Life book is a nice add on to the movie. It has 431 pages of photos some of Pattie and people she has worked with and loved. It has pictures of Patti. It also has poetry and short stories. There is an index and I compleatly recomend this book to you fan or not. In a few years it is going to be a collectable. Enjoy - Richard Glenn
