It blows very strongly and almost evenly. Not a quiet fan at all. Trust me I sleep with the a/c and fan on, live next to the traintracks, and this is the loudest fan I've had.

Don't take me wrong I'm able to fall asleep with this fan but it's not a very pleasant sound to begin with.

Pros: blows strong cold air

Cons: Loud annoying noise

I just picked up this fan today from Costco. Last summer these sold out so quick I wanted to make sure I got one so I bought early.

I knew this fan would be loud when I bought it. I don't think from the picture on the box Patton expects this to be used as a bedroom fan. It's more a high powered fan for a work area. It's really not as bad as I expected though. The lower setting has plenty of power if you need to use it in the bedroom.

I plan on either putting this outside on the balcony to blow cool air into the house or to use as an exaust fan in the opposite side of the house so noise won't be a problem.

The fan is solid, well made, all metal except for the blade. I was very pleased when I got it home and tried it out. This fan can really move alot of air. It sends a massive solid coluum of air deep into the room.

This was on sale for half price when I bought, thank God; at half price it still isn't worth the cost.

Previous reviews directed me away from other fans and guided me to this one. Sadly, hindsight reveals that the most helpful review on this purchase was 'Definitely blows...'

The noise level is very, very high. I bought it so I could place it in my living room... for the short while I had it there, I had to turn the volume way up on my television whenever the fan was on. The combined noise level made it very hard to hold a conversation. I swapped it with the 20-year old Patton fan I had in my bedroom. Now, I have to point this new fan away from me or it would be too loud for me to fall asleep.

The construction seems solid enough, but the only metal parts you'll find outside the motor are the fasteners, the screens covering front and back, and the red "foot" it stands on. The fan blades are molded as a single piece of plastic held together by an outer ring. Brand new out of the box the ring rubs on something (not sure what as yet), which adds to the noise level and interferes with its operation. It also vibrates some, and I'm not sure whether this is a result of the rubbing.

If you value quietude, you won't want buy this, and you will definitely never want to turn this higher than the lowest setting when you're in the room with it. And due to problems with construction (vibration and fan blade 'retainer' rubbing on something), I wouldn't turn it on and leave the room.

Several years ago, a friend lent me his Patton fan and I've been hooked since. Sure, you can buy the ~$20 disposa-fans, but they're just that--disposable. The motors will die within two years and you'll be buying a replacement. Spend the money up-front and buy a Patton; it will go on and on like the Energizer bunny, and it will move air. These fans rock.
