I do not recommend buying this heater! Patton PUH-9000, December 15, 2010
This review is from: Patton PUH9000-U Rugged 1500-Watt Utility Heater (Kitchen)
I bought three of these heaters in February 2010 when my central heating failed. Out of the three, only one still worked after a month's worth of use. (On during the day, off while we were sleeping). Not one of them were capable of heating a 6 x 9 room which was the smallest of the three bedrooms I bought them for. You really had to be sitting next to them to feel any warmth.
It is now December 2010. Central heating hasn't been replaced because of financial/job concerns (plus I've discovered its cheaper to run the electric heaters then running a natural gas furnace here). The remaining working Patton heater I just put in a 15 x 15 room that was showing 40 degrees on the indoor thermometer and after two hours of cycling on/off, it has only managed to raise the temperature 2 degrees in that room with the door closed, the furnace heat registers sealed shut and the windows covered in plastic. If you want warmth, then its my recommendation that you don't waste your money on this heater.
I've since replaced the two failed heaters, with a Sunbeam Radiant heat and a Lasko ceramic. Both of which have been able to heat the areas I need to live in.

can be a good heater, with conditions, December 15, 2010

this can be a great heater, but it suffers from a serious design flaw. the heating element and fan assembly are enclosed inside the heater with the thermostat directly above that. now for the flaw, all that stuff that makes a heater heat is fully enclosed inside the heater. meaning there are no ventilation holes anywhere on the case to let the excess heat that builds up inside the case out. what dose this mean? it means the unit will run on high for maybe a minute on the highest setting and turn off for 20 minutes minimum. my room when i first tried this heater dropped to 58 degrees and it still wouldn't kick back on. the following is not recommended for the average user, my heater, i cut vent holes in the handles and when that wasent enough i added a small computer fan on the back of the case to bring in fresh air and blow it directly over the thermostat. now it cycles on and off like its supposed to. so if you like to modify things you just buy to get them working well, then buy this. it will move alot of air heating a room well, its just that design flaw that makes it completely useless. i gave it 3 stars for its potential, not actual out of the box ability.

Dumbest heater around, December 13, 2010
This review is from: Patton PUH9000-U Rugged 1500-Watt Utility Heater (Kitchen)
It heats a small sized room, but it can't decide what the temperature is. If you set a low or mid temperature it will reach that temp and shut off. So it goes into a stupid cycle where it turns on for 10 seconds and then turns off. When it tries to turn on it has a lot of fake outs. As soon as it tries to turn on the temp is reached and it shuts off. Instead they should've put a timer that if the heater is turned on by the temp dropping it should at least run for 5 minutes before it turns off no matter if the temp rises above the setting. It should also make sure it doesn't turn back on in less than a minute after it has been turned off by reaching the temp. This would avoid the fake outs and not be so annoying.
I like the heater design and how the heater itself doesn't get hot. Also I like the fan which better circulates the air. That is why I give it 2 stars. It is a little loud. If only it would be less annoying by being smart about when to start and stop as stated above.
