Decent fan--but not as good as the older Pattons or Lakewood,

First of all, I must admit that I am a fan freak. I LOVE fans and I own several. I bought one of these at Lowes because I thought that it was a "new technology" type fan. It is powerful, but not as powerful as my old one, the Patton 20 inch. The "beam" of air is not as focused as my old one, and it is MUCH louder. The sound is totally different, too. Instead of an "airplane" type sound, it has more of a "turbine" type sound, which is not nearly as soothing if you like to sleep with your fan on. This fan is much bulkier and heavier than it needs to be, and there are a few plastic parts as well, the blades being one of them. There is also, surprisingly, quite a bit of assembly involved. It took me almost an hour to put together, mostly becuase the instructions are not very good. Needless to say, I returned this fan.I like Lakewood fans. My Patton 20" gets hot and I had to take it apart and grease the bearings to fix it. The older Patton 18" had blades that would break apart if you used it above low for too long. The Patton 14" motors have "loose" bearings which causes the armature to rattle around and is VERY noisy if used above low. Vornado is good but too darn expensive. I just got a Lakewood 21" fan and it is GREAT. Quiet (a relative term), decently priced, not too heavy, compact, and POWERFUL! Amazon should get lakewood fans. Check out their website if you are a fan freak.(lakewoodeng.com) Patton PX400-UC Extreme High Velocity Floor Fan SUMMARY: Pros: powerful (though not as good as others) Cons: heavy, bulky, plastic parts(including blades), expensive, LOUD!

I love this fan! This thing is awsome. Built sturdy, with tons of power. This is a fan that "Tool time Tim" from Home Improvement would love. Yes it is heavy, noisy, and the assembly directions may not be real helpful, but it is still worth buying. By the way I do sleep with it on level III (high). I cannot say anything bad about this item, and for $65.00 to my doorstep-priceless! Get your now!

Saying this fan works great is an understatement. Which is why you won't see this referred to as a fan on the title page of the owners manual. It's called a "high velocity air circulator" and rightly so, it's a 20 inch powerhouse. I bought one last year and it works so good I just purchased my second one. Be warned, that if you are looking to put a fan in your bedroom and cannot stand a little noise, then this is not the fan for you. On level II this fan moves a lot of air and is a little noisy, I challenge anyone (who hasn't had a fifth of bourbon) to sleep in a room with this thing on level III. This fan has 7 blades as opposed to the normal 3 or 4 found on most fans. Patton makes a decent 20" 3 blade all metal fan which is quieter and better suited for sleeping quarters. This sturdy "machine" is built for one purpose, projecting air at a high velocity, to cool down an area quickly. Have a room that gets hot and stuffy during a party or in the mid day heat and need it cooled down fast? Need the air circulated in the garage so you can finish up a project? If so, this is your fan. I would have given 5 stars but the directions for assembly were pretty weak, but manageable. Hope this helped.
