Very Quiet cooling for the money,

I have this fan in my office and I'm very satisfied with the performance. I previously had an old box fan that was very loud and didn't put out much air. This little baby is compact, lightweight, and easy to position. The air that this thing pushes is incredible, even at it's lowest setting, it's very quiet. I recommend this fan to anyone who needs extra cooling or wants to save money on their electric bill.

My trusty old box fan was finally lost in my last move to my stuffy new apartment. I decided to invest in a new fan, and was about to get another cheap box fan to replace it. I was extremely hesitant to spend 4 times what I would on a box fan for something I wasn't sure would be that different. Well, I am glad I did. This fan is quieter than my old box fan; although it is not quiet enough for me to sleep with it on in the same room (even on low). This fan is extremely heavy-duty and stable. The three rubber feet and triangular 'foot' keep it steady, probably helping the quiet efficiency of the unit. The main thing I noticed about this fan is that I didn't notice it. Only after I turned it off for a little bit did my apartment begin to get stuffy and hot again. Yes, you will need to secure loose papers from flying if they are directly in front of the fan. Once you've done that, though, you won't even notice the volumes of air that this fan circulates until you start reaching for your sweater. The cord is just long enough (about 6 ft) to reach the outlet without having to invest immediately in an extension cord. The fan also pivots nicely on it's base and can be used as a hassock fan to circulate cool air from the floor around the room. I gave this fan four stars instead of five due to the cost (I don't think it's necessarily 4 times better than the box fan) and the fact that the cord wasn't quite long enough for my outlet-deficient apartment. However, I do think I have made a good investment, and I look forward to using this fan for a long time.

Quality not representative of Patton's reputation,

The main reason for purchasing this fan was because of our luck with Patton products in the past. We currently own several Patton fans that have lasted forever without ever breaking or getting too loud. We now need new fans so we decided that Patton was the way to go. The fans arrived and we were extremely unhappy because one was severely damaged and one was very loud (a clicking noise in the motor I think). We returned the 2 fans for a replacement, and the same issue occured with the excessive noise. Ultimately we returned them for a refund and we will not buy Patton fans in the future. If you do not mind loud noises with your fan, then this fan still might be the one for you. If you like a quiet fan, then look somewhere else. I hate to say this, but Patton's quality is going downhill.

Once upon a time, PAtton fans were made in New Haven Indiana. That's when they were truly good products. Not any more. First a sale to Rival and a move to sweet springs MO turned out to be a disaster. Then a purchase by the Holmes group and it was goodbye domestic production.Enter China, the new workshop of the world. All the fans are now sourced from China. So a are most Lakewood units. The motors are very cheap now, non lubricating and very noisy. Sad to say, but an american icon has gone the way of the hula hoop, allin the interest of the cheapest possible price at your local big box store.

The Patton 14" floor fan is amazingly quiet, yet circulates more air and cools it down better than I have ever seen. I would recommend it to anyone.

Patton Not The Same - Poor Warranties,
This review is from: Patton U2-1487 14-Inch High Velocity Multi-Room Air Circulator (Kitchen)
I always thought that Patton fans were one of the best, but based on my experiences with them, I find that Patton's quality has declined. I purchased this fan from a local hardware store, and the first one had to be returned since the motor made a very loud noise like bearings slipping. I returned it, got another one and it lasted one year until the motor just stopped. The fan had a 10 year warranty on it, and when I returned it to the store in the box with the receipt, I was told that I had to contact Patton. When I did, they told me it would cost me 10.00 to ship the fan to them to repair it, and then I had to pay an additional 10.00 to have it shipped back to me. Well, I paid 25.00 for the fan and thought I was better off to just get another brand of fan which I did. What good is a warranty if you have to pay almost as much to ship it as it would cost for another fan? The store would not give me my money back or honor the warranty, so I was out of luck. I bought another brand of fan elsewhere and I have had no trouble with it. I also had two other Patton fans with an 18 inch blade, both which have broken. The first one the motor failed after three years and the second one the blade broke near the shaft after two years. Luckily with the second fan, the store was kind enough to honor the 10 year warranty and just give me my money back since I still had the receipt after two years. So much for a ten year warranty! My advice to those who buy Patton products - try another brand first, but if you like Patton's name, put that receipt in a very safe place and buy from a store which has a good return policy and honors their warranties because this brand of fan may not last you very long and you might have to return it!

Not the same.,

While the Patton fan pictured above is a high quality lifesaver in the heat of a Georgia summer, the additional ones we ordered and received from Amazon weren't as nicely made as the ones we already owned. However, if you don't mind the occasional resonating noise, then they work fine for circulation. Really, it's the little things, like what the fan blades are made of.

The thermal switch on this thing went open and the fan will not run after less than two years of service. Other interesting features include the speed switch cycling the neutral...Other reviews cite poor customer service so I'm not going to even try to capitalize on the "25 year warrantee." I would not buy another Patten product.

My 14 inch Patton fan performed wonderfully during the summer past. It has a remarkable ability to send a channel of air a considerable distance across a large room into an adjoining room, which is wonderful when you need it. It is study, all metal (I'm tired of the flimsy plastic that falls over or breaks as on other fans I've seen). It is a bit noisy on the high speed, but medium & low seem generally enough all I need. Nothing complex and no attempt to make it look like anything but what it is -- a basic, hard working air-mover. At the special price offered,I bought a second one as a backup! Because of the long distances it moves air, it's also great to use to dry floors after washing, winter or summer. A great buy!

Fan almost caught on fire after 6 months,
By Buddy Ellis (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Patton U2-1487 14-Inch High Velocity Multi-Room Air Circulator (Kitchen)
I had one of these fans just under 6 months, and woke up one night to the smell of electrical burning with the fan throwing sparks all over the place. Not sure how to get hold of the manufacturer, and not sure I'd want another one anyway, so I've not even attempted to contact Patton, instead opting to locate a replacement motor. Unless these things have improved, I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Stock motor was a blue mcmillan model F040882978, part # 517-137. If you buy one and it has this motor I would be very leary of it.
