5.0 out of 5 stars Get blown away
I have used Patton air circulators for the last twenty years,
and if you are looking for something much more effecient than
the common box fan that you see in department stores, this is
really a fan. The first one I bought had the C.F.M. rating on
it, which was 9600----They don't put that on the fan anymore,

3.0 out of 5 stars Not The Patton Fan Of Old
I have owned Patton's for years, the ones made in the USA. This fan is made in China. It is VERY Noisy. It does give off a real nice breeze but the noise level is so loud even at the lowest setting makes it hard to be in the same room.

I have only had this fan for two days but it seems to be great, really puts out some air.The only drawback is it is really LOUD even on the lowest setting. So if you can deal with the noise but need a good sturdy industrial type fan that really moves the air, then this fan is for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars BE VERY WARY OF THIS ITEM!!!!!!!, December 2, 2007
This review is from: Patton U2-2003-UC 20-Inch Velocity Air Circulator (Kitchen)
I had my 2nd one (HLSU22003UC 20" High Velocity Fan, 3 Speed, 23"x7"x23", Chrome) for 3-4 days and it nearly caught fire. NO JOKE!!!! I had the speed set on high and the next thing I know was I heard the motor idling down all of the sudden to the lowest speed possible. I unplugged it immediately and good thing I did, because the motor was extremely hot, and I could smell something burning inside. I have owned 3 of these now in the last 2+ years. One just conked out 3-4 days ago after 2 year of use. Slightly different model than this one listed here though (Patton U2-1887 20-Inch High Velocity Whole-House Air Circulating Fan). Motor/Blades locked up on it. I now have the 3rd one up and running (Patton U2-2003-UC 20-Inch Velocity Air Circulating Fan) and will keep you posted on how this works out.

P.S. I should also add that this particular fan/model once put together and running for the first time started making a humming noise right out of the box.

4.0 out of 5 stars Patton 20 in Air Circ, July 5, 2006

I purchased this fan for my stable - to ventilate the aisle and help cool the horses during the hot summer days in S. Fla. It was a replacement /supplement for an older Patton that I had purchased for the same reason. Main drawing factor on these fans is the overheat shut off protection .... important as I have to leave the fan on for extended periods of time.
So far - fan working great, good air flow - doing it's job as expected. Not as much volume as the older slightly larger model and not made quite as robustly from surface inspection but these are the best non commercail air circulators I have found.

5.0 out of 5 stars VROOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!, December 13, 2010

First of all let me thank all the other reviewers on here.
One star, and five star and everything in between.
I live in a VERY noisy apartment building.
The lady above me moved out three months ago.
...three months of sheer bliss I have never known before.
It was so nice to be able to sleep without hearing things coming out of the upstairs apartment that I didn't want to hear in the first place.
Now, after three months my landlord has found new renters. (OH GOODY!!!)
The floors squeak and I can hear anything and everything.
I have a box fan....doesn't cut it.
A Marpaq sleepmate....doesn't cut it.
Ear plugs....nope.
I can still hear squeaking.
Lotsa squeak, no sleep.
Brian very crabby the next day.
So, like I said...thank you fellow reviewers for pointing out that this fan makes some noise.
LOTS OF NOISE.
I can see why people wouldn't like the noise level but for me?
THIS is why I bought the darn thing and yes, it sounds like a jet on high speed.
FINALLY, the people upstairs can squeak all they want.
My new fan conquers all.
VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!
Granted it's about to blow me right out of the room as I type but for my noise applications....I couldn't be happier.
It was a snap to put together.
It seems to be heavy duty, no cheapy box fan here.
I'll let you know down the road if it starts acting up.
For this price range it better last many years.
For now my super fan, white noise machine comes....
Highly recommended.

I *love* Patton fans, when they were made in the US. I had a great 20 inch fan that we had outside for our dog. It was evidently prior to changing where Patton makes this fan. Our old fan was solid, supporting piece was all one piece, didn't make tons of noise (just some you would expect from moving air like it did), had a metal blade, easy clips to open the cage for cleaning, etc.

This fan (as mentioned by other reviewers) has plastic blades, tie wraps to close, a two piece screwed together metal support bar and sounds like a mower engine. The only reason that I like it is that it seems to move air.

If this were for use in our house, we would be sending it back. We have 4 14 inch old style Pattons and I intent to baby them as much as I can. Sure can't replace them now! Not with the quality that Patton is turning out now. I need to start looking now for quality fans as Patton is no longer what they used to be!

Excellent fan.... I have a smaller Patton that I bought about 10 years ago, and it is noisy too... industrial strength fans are noisy. Moving air makes noise. A very good fan, well built and I think it's a good value for $$$$.

I purchased this fan for my teenage son who like the drone of a fan to sleep. I have since purchased another one to put at the top of my stairs to help circulate the air from the downstairs since we have no ceiling fans. My son loves how much air this baby pumps out and the steady hum has been a wonderful plus, saying he hasn't slept this good in a long time. the 2nd fan has done wonders for the house circulation and I too have come to enjoy sleeping with it on in my bedroom. Very sturdy steel construction, easy assembly of the legs. 3 speeds. Top speed is out of this world. Almost like a wind storm. Me and my boys actually ripped up tissue paper and had a ball putting it in front of the fan and watching them swirl all over the house. What a riot! I highly recommend this fan for excellent air circulation, sleep aid and some silly fun.

Bought this to replace an old Patton that seemed to have finally given up the ghost.

It arrived in a box with almost no packing material, so the box felt very flimsy. Assembled the fan and turned it on what I thought was the lowest speed, and was greeted with a sound like that of a small airplane taxiing down the runway. "Okay, I must have it on the fastest speed", I thought, and turned the dial the other direction, only to have the noise get louder! Nope, it was on the lowest speed after all. It was also impossible to ignore that the difference in speed between the fastest and slowest settings felt like about 10% - barely noticeable.

Our old Patton may have been meant for industrial use, but it was quiet enough to be used in a residence. This is no longer the case with the new models. They are LOUD, and don't seem to move air as well as the old models, even with all the noise.

This might work very well for a workshop or garage, but I can't recommend it for any other setting. I shipped it back the next day after (thankfully) being able to resurrect our old Patton with some coaxing and a bit of WD40. When it finally does die on us, we'll know to search elsewhere for a replacement.
