Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

One of the most successful Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) players over the last 15 years, the exuberant Sheehan provides a glimpse into her life, career, and opinions on the game. Sheehan, a "feel" player who seldom practices and admits she can't analyze another's swing, nevertheless shares some instruction. Most of the book, however, is written by Hicks, a golf writer and former tour player who recounts Sheehan's early athleticism (mostly in downhill skiing) and provides a minute-by-minute account of Sheehan's 1993 induction into the LPGA Hall of Fame, her appraisals of fellow tour players, her opinions on lesbianism on the tour, and some highlights of Sheehan's career. A generous, humanitarian, fiercely competitive person who learned that there is more to life than golf, Sheehan is a fine role model. A single caveat is the book's hodgepodge organization. From Booklist

Known to celebrate victories with back flips, Sheehan has been a flamboyant fixture on the professional women's circuit for the past 15 years. Akin to a scrapbook, this tome mixes golf instruction with scattered as-told-to autobiographical tidbits and inside-the-tour observations on hot topics like last year's flap over a TV kibitzer's comment that big-breasted women have difficulty swinging golf clubs. Golfers (particularly female golfers) will find the instructional material most satisfying, as Sheehan provides quick tips on all aspects of the game, including such familiar terrors as sidehill lies and bunker shots. A solid instructional, especially in light of the recent boom in the popularity of women's golf. Gilbert Taylor
