I bought an artbook on August Macke and it fueled my desire to read the whole story, not just a synopsis. What a wonderful expression of colour. Not only did it have many colourful pieces of watercolour art but also drawings, aquarelles and photographs (many of the above in colour). Klee's cover to the book shows how he had begun blending modern art with earlier realism. In fact, in his section you see a slow change in his art. Moilliet is quite the enigma. His work is 25% toward Macke's style (mostly fauvish colourful scenery) and the other 75% toward
Klee's latter modern art. When looking for Moilliet artbooks, there seem to be very few written. So, except for a
book on his later Swiss painting, this is a good book to see his early art. Macke died 1 month into WWI and Franz
Marc, Macke's good friend and colourful painter (eg blue horse) was killed a year later. Sad to say Marc had been officially relieved of combat duties as Germany was mindful of how many great artists were killed early in the war. But the order of relief did not make it past upper command before his death. So...just the thought of the men
having 1 last great adventure and then facing the trials of life is like a movie plot. I expect to read/view the art
over and over again....shu
