I have been a long time Paul Hardcastle fan and enjoyed his music. I have other songs that I have compiled from him (via emusic, etc.), but this is the first time I have bought a complete Hardcastle album. When it comes to his music, I am never disappointed. It is EXTREMELY rare find a tune that you dislike. This is one of those albums where you like all the tracks being played. BRAVO, once again Mr. Hardcastle!

I enjoyed all of the tracks. Paul went into a more existential bag with this one. I only gave it four stars because when you become accustomed to superiority and receive excellence, there is a slight disappointment. Paul is still one of the best.

First time I ever heard of Paul Hardcastle was of course his 1980's electro funk Vietnam era protest song 19,which made wonderful use of the early sampling techniques. It got me interested in hearing more of his music. At the time all I could find were a series of albums he did from the 1990's on under the banner of the Jazzmasters. Upon sampling these albums,I found them just a bit too built around typical Weather Channel style smooth jazz and pop soul vocals of the era to be of any great interest within the context of what I was listening to at the time. When I heard about this album for the first time,it was touted as a departure for Hardcastle. Actually understanding very well how musically talented and often creatively innovative many of these smooth jazz artists are outside the sometimes stifling production style that defines their genre,I decided this was an album I might want to give a try.

The album opens with "The Truth (Shall Set You Free" which, clocking in at nearly 12 minutes is the longest song Hardcastle has done. Amid spoken word chants of the song title, musically it's punctuated by some slippery melodic electric keyboards and pulsing electronic bass lines. There are some very probing percussion, echoed vocal loops and often otherworldly saxophone solos weaving in and out of "No Stress At All","Summer Love" and "Crystal Whisper",all of which engender both an enchantingly danceable flavor to them. "Dance Of The Wind" is my favorite on this album,a hauntingly beautiful song that is more defined by it's pulsing use of electronics, all with a light touch and a penetrating melody made up of multi tracked piano, sax and synthesizer.

So I own about a dozen Paul Hardcastle Albums. Big fan of the genre. This is his absolute best since Hardcastle 5. Like 5, almost all of it is original. I was very disappointed in "Chill Lounge", which should have been called Recycler. Oooo I hate when Bands try to pass off an Album as a new effort. Oh, back to PHVII. It flows like Hardcastle 5. Beautifully blends his (and mine)favorite instruments and guides them through compositions that flow like a wonderful dream. Just to be clear, this is not an album for music/jazz snobs. This Album is the Hardcastle formula that I've been waiting for, for several Albums now. Yay!

I bought this CD a couple of weeks ago. It's excellent. In fact, it's so good, my 8-year old daughter even likes it and asks to listen to it whenever we're in the car (take that for what it's worth). I like every song on the disc. I found just two negatives: I don't like the transitions in the first track, which is over 11 minutes long (and I could swear one part of the song sounds like Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time"). A couple of the tracks can get kind of repetitive (due to the chants). That said, I love that this is basically an instrumental album. It's excellent chill music. It'll be perfect for the coming summer days out by the pool. Enjoy!

The PH style has always been a favorite "musical food group" of mine since I first purchased his Zero One album. All of his albums are in my collection on every musical device I own. I can now buy his albums without needing to hear them first because of the longevity of the style I have always gotten from all of his musical offerings. I also have all of the Jazzmasters albums with the similar PH style readily identifiable in the music. I can't wait for PH VIII when ever it comes out.

Bought for a couple who still listens to CD's and really appreciates Smooth Jazz Sounds. Latest and best from Paul Hardcastle's Group. I download MP3's from iTunes which, to my ears, sound better than CD's--higher sampling rate. All of the CD's I purchased I sent to these
Friends and they assure me that all of the CD's are faultless--perfect!
