1.0 out of 5 stars Big McCartney Fan but not a fan of this DVD, June 28, 2001

I was extremely disappointed in this DVD. There were too many long shots of beautiful women in the crowd and not enough of Paul. The film makers constantly jumped from one concert to another during one song - very annoying. Some of the film work was of poor qualitity. Maybe they were trying different effects but they were not successful - looked more like a bootleg. The most annoying thing was the constant cutting away to film clips that were supposed to illustrate the song. For some of the Beatle clips, it was bearable. But to watch Viet Nam war footage through the ENTIRE song of Long and Winding Road was too much. Or seeing Martin Luther King, Jr. during Fool on the Hill. Maybe they (the film makers) were making editorial comments but I was offended by some of them. I bought this to watch Paul, not get a lectue on war (and what did that have to do with the Long and Winding Road? It stretches the point.) Or, I had to assume that they meant the Fools were those people who didn't buy Rev. King's message - but it made it look like Rev. King was the Fool. And why so many heavy-handed comments on American Society? I noticed that that producers appeared to be in Hong Kong - I guess they have a bone to pick with Americans. This video so annoyed me that I never finished watching it.

Like the other reviewers, I couldn't agree more. I went to the concert when he came down here to New Zealand, and the concert still stands as one of the best concerts I have ever been to, and believe me, I have been to a lot!!
So I was very keen to have a record of this great concert but this was total [hogwash]. Not the show!! The visual presentation of the show. I can't even watch it, its done so badly. Here's a tip Mr Director, just point the camera towards the stage area - and walk away!! Believe me it would have been better if he did.
See if you can rent it first before you buy it.

If you grew up with this music like I did, than some of the tunes are likely to draw out some memories and possibly along with a tear. The DVD and performance just gets better as you go. Of course I would love to have 20 more songs and 2 more hours, but this is a great DVD. I was at the show in Dallas, TX in 1989 and it was great. There are moments that you think Paul is 28 again on some of the songs. The old Beatle classics just reminds me of how huge of an icon this man is and what an incredible talent. And of course the fab four classics are the highlights here but put it there is really a nice piece. This is just a great release for any Beatle or Paul McCartney fan. For the budget conscious its a bit pricey and takes a while to get, but if you can foot it, grab one and hold on. The memories will last for a long time.
