Book Description

4 and upP and upLet's Talk
From beach towels to buckets, radios to crayons, Paul’s got it all. But Paul doesn’t see it as an issue – he has it all, and why should he care what other people need? As he adds to his vast collection, his neighbors request use of some of his things, but Paul refuses. But when Paul’s house is flooded and his neighbors come to his rescue, this delightfully illustrated story shows that kindness is what is truly important.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paul the Pack Rate learns a true life lesson -- people (especially friends) matter more than possessions, July 20, 2009
This review is from: Paul the Pack Rat: Helping Children Learn to Share (Let's Talk) (Paperback)
The ability to empathize, to share, to play fairly are not genetically ingrained traits for children. They are a system of ethics, attitudes, and behaviors that must be taught them. Clearly, the best way to teach such qualities to a child is for them to be modeled by others (especially parents). The second best way is for them to be played out within the entertaining context of a picture book story. That is why "Paul The Pack Rat: Helping Children Learn To Share" by Vickie J. Belmore and Corey Hoover is such an invaluable instructional tool for parents, teachers, and care givers working with young children. Enhanced with the cartoon style artwork of Paul Ciaravino, "Paul The Pack Rat" is the story of a creature who hoards everything from beach towels to board games. His animal friends invite him to a picnic but he's too busy taking inventory on his possessions to accept the invitation. Plus, he refuses to let his friends use any of his frisbees or balls at their picnic. But when trouble strikes, all his friends come to his aid and rescue. That's when Paul the Pack Rate learns a true life lesson -- people (especially friends) matter more than possessions.
