Paul Robeson : Portrait of The Artist (2007), September 22, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Paul Robeson (DVD)
As a Paul Robeson fan, I enjoyed this special four-disc set which features The Emperor Jones, Paul Robeson Tribute to an Artist, Body and Soul, Boarderline, Sanders of the River, Jericho,The Proud Valley and Native Land. Each of these works represent the best of Paul Robeson and well illustrate his many achievments in the political and cultural world of Black America. Eventually, Paul left the movies behind, and became an international(global figure),greatly influencing those denied their rights,(partiularly in the labor movement). For a period of time, historians endeavored to wipe out his many accomplishments. However,in
this body of work, other great icons who were greatly influenced by him such as: Sidney Portier, Harry Belefonte, James Earl Jones and his son Paul Robeson Jr, each pay homage by honoring him on Disc 4,as one of the greatest African American icons of all times. I highly recommend this volume of work as well as the film documentary about him entitled,
"Here I Stand."
