This review is from: Les Paul (DVD)
"Les Paul"- "Les Paul (Instructional DVD For
Guitar)" this DVD produced by the Hal Leonard Corporation is a 90 minute sit down interview with Jon Chappell and the legendary Les Paul. Now that may not sound exciting, but when you stop to consider who Les Paul was,and the contributions he made to modern music and the then nascent recording industry, it borders on "must see" viewing. For those who don't know, Les Paul invented the electric guitar. Today it is the world's number one musical instrument. He would also perfect the technology of what he called "sound on sound", and what today is known as multi-track recording. All of this and more, are reviewed and explained at length in this in-depth "Les Paul" DVD. Interspersed with the Jon Chappell interview is live video footage shot during the last twenty years, of Les Paul and his band playing in New York jazz clubs. As well as historic early television footage from the 1950's, coming from Les Paul's own television show, "The Les Paul Mary Ford Show". This television footage is important, not only to the life of Les Paul, but to the history and development of television and multi-media as well. During the interview Les Paul will discuss the electric guitar, and it's place in music. He explains how he improvised both jazz guitar and blues guitar lines live in concert. He demonstrates the electric guitar techniques of guitar slides, guitar hammers, and guitar bends. All of which he helped to introduce and make popular, to guitar players around the world. Les Paul then reveals how he invented the electric guitar in the late 1920's, and the ten years it took for him to convince the Gibson Guitar Company to buy both his electric guitar, and it's accompanying amplifier. He had invented the guitar amplifier of course, to amplify the sound coming from the electric guitar strings. He goes on to explain how he sold his "sound on sound" recording machine, or multi-track recorder to AMPEX. His recording career (he and Mary Ford sold 20 million records) with Capitol Records is also covered. Please don't miss this "Les Paul- Instructional DVD For Guitar" DVD. It really does enlighten and educate it's viewers about one of the most important figures in 20th Century music, the recording industry, recording technology, and multi-media. All of which are becoming more prominent in this 21st Century. Many people working in these areas today, enjoy the fruits of Les Paul's labor. Hopefully this little review will be helpful for guitar players, music and multi-media people. [...].
