Product Description

Daughter of "Stars on Sunday" star Jess Yates and an eccentric starlet mother, Paula Yates's childhood was bizarre and often painful. She escaped from Wales to the glamour and chaos of the media world - the Boomtown Rats, Bob Geldof and her days on "The Tube". This is her own account of her life. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, June 25, 2007
This review is from: The Autobiography (Paperback)
I bought this book years ago, while waiting in Heathrow to board a plane back to the U.S. Not only was it fantastic airplane reading, it's also a book I've reread several times. I'd been a fan of Paula's writing back when she had a column for one of the English glossies. She wrote with verve and fantastic intelligence about life, fun, and the price of beans. From an unconventional upbringing, she sprang, full-blown, as the quintessential rock pixie who lived several lifetimes in her one. Paula, rest in peace. And readers, read this book! Not only does it chronicle an amazing era in rock and roll, it's also written with an immense intelligence and sense of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read, June 7, 2008
By Bloomsbury (melbourne australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Autobiography (Paperback)
Talented Paula Yates shows her comic writing skills to perfection in this "autobiography". Perhaps not the full story, but a very good read. Yates reveals herself to be highly intelligent, hard working, a devoted mother & a survivor of a Grimms Fairy Tale childhood. Sadly, her survival skills weren't up to the final twists & turns of her life. After reading this, I think it's a pity she didn't write more novels - her ability to set scenes with a few sharp sentences, her great comic timing, & undoubted talent are apparent on every page. It's a tribute to her that the ghastly parenting she received didn't seem to effect her ability to create a loving family herself. You won't be disappointed if you buy this book.
