More About the Author

British-born author James Wood spins sensuous taboo tales. Themes of domination and submission predominate - of hands on legs and garter straps and ladies bound in silk.

Honourable Mention in the Best Bondage Writer category from the 2012 Bondage Awards.

I received a free copy of this novella in exchange for an honest review.

"Seduction" is a sweet little novella with a ton of old school charm. It's the first of three novellas that make up the "Paula's Place" trilogy. The plot is centered on Paula who moves back to her home town after a relationship that came to a dead end. Sexually frustrated she voyeuristically views a sexual act between her neighbor and an unidentified woman, which causes much curiosity and ultimately leads to her yearning to meet her male neighbor Max.

What I liked about Paula, the main character, is that she is simple and straight forward in her thoughts. The author doesn't give you a ton of back round, but focuses mostly on her current sexual needs and desires. By writing in the first person you are engulfed in Paula's own emotions during her encounters which are described in colorful flowery prose. Wood shows how erotic doesn't necessarily mean crass.

"Seduction" is fast moving with explicit appeal, ending with the cliff hanger "What kind of girl do you want to be?" To find out you will have to pick up "Surrender".

What can I say but tsktsk Mr.Wood, what a way to end your book. Leaving me in suspense and need. Luckily I have the complete series so don't have to wait too long to read the next installment, but still. You tease me so Sir. *smiles sweetly*

Anywho, Seduction is the first part of the erotic Paula's Place series in which we meet Paula, a young woman on the brink of discovering who she truly is. Following a break from her boring husband she returns home and quickly finds herself obsessed with her mysterious new neighbour. A dark man who likes to chain women up in his bedroom... um, can you blame her?

Thing is, Mr. Mysterious knows that she is watching him. And when Paula makes the grave mistake of entering his home Max takes full advantage and uses it to get what he wants. Her. Bribing her with either a date or prison for breaking and entering, he whisks her away on one steamy date. Oh My! The date! If I were in her shoes I would let him take control too. Their little encounter under the table was exciting and hot and just... *le sigh*

As with Mr.Wood's other short erotic reads Seduction packs enough punch to draw you in and leave you craving more. From the word go we get a glance of the darker side of Paula's desires; the saucy yet dominating males in her dreams, her need for Max, and her willingness to submit to him so easily. I would advise you to have a read and join me in anticipating Paula's decision...

Having read all three parts of Paula's seduction, I came to a conclusion.
All D/s - Erotica books are pretty much the same, which I'm not pointing out as a disadvantage, rather as a highlighted point of the genre's trades.
Naive woman meets experienced master, manster opens a whole new world, naive woman opens up after major turmoil, falls in love with experienced master.
Sounds bit Homo Sapiens ? Well it is! It's supposed to spike if not wake your animalistic sences.
If your not in to this kind of readings not by a bit, then this book is definitely not for you.
I, however, simply loved it.
It was a weird mix of sweep me off my feet love with dark salacious passion.
James Wood is on his way of becoming on my favorite authors.

Generally I dislike first person POV and 'old fashioned' phrasing, words such as bosom belong in my grandma's bodice rippers not my modern erotic romances. However, I am so glad that I gave this series a shot. Mr. Wood has managed to take the two things that I dislike and turn them into a truly sensual story.

I had to immediately start the next one and it was even better I'm happy to say. I highly recommend that you read them all one right after the other. They are exquisitely written in such a way that they grab and pull you right in. You just have to discover what happens next.

I would like to acknowledge that though I already owned this first book of the series the author provided me with Books 2 and 3 in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Readers who enjoyed the storyline in E.L. James' "Fifty Shades of Grey" even as they held their noses at the now-often-parodied writing, may take a welcome breath of fresh air. With this new series, James Wood gives us an engagingly sexy BDSM romance framed in beautiful, elegant prose. No roaring inner goddesses here; no titans of industry working through their childhood traumas; no dilettante self-indulgence. Far from the synthetic grandiosity and hyper-inflated operatic emotionalism of so much contemporary erotic romance, Wood's settings and characters are refreshingly ordinary, down-to-earth and always believable. Though the when and where of the narrative are kept intentionally vague, as if locked in a kind of "Pleasantville" time warp, this only adds to the sense of intimacy.

Wood invites us to share in his heroine's journey of sensual discovery. Still hiding in her shell after the dissolution of a long and unfulfilling relationship, Paula moves back to her hometown to live with the aunt who raised her. We look in on the young woman's unbidden fantasies, born of frustration and loneliness. We watch her growing fascination with a handsome neighbor, which soon takes on an innocently obsessive quality, manifested in voyeurism and, ultimately contact, capture. and seduction.

"Seduction" is the first book of a promised trilogy. Each installment is tantalizingly brief, comprising little more than a third of a very short novel. The storyline is cumulative; subsequent parts more or less meaningless without reference to the earlier episodes. One might expect these eventually to be collected under a single cover. (I've read the first two; the third is scheduled for release in January 2013).
