The Best Spanish Pop Cd of 2000 from a Female Artist,
By A Customer
This review is from: Paulina (Audio CD)
This cd along with Shakira's MTV Unplugged, is by no doubt the best latin pop cd I have heard this year. In it Paulina mixes pop (lo hare Por Ti, sin aire, vive el verano), dance (Sexy Dance, Y Yo Sigo Aqui),ballads(Tan Sola,Cancun Y Yo, Tal Vez,Quizas),pop-rock (mirame a los ojos), and even a song accompanied by a mariachi ensemble(El Ultimo Adios); which makes it a complete album where not one song sounds alike. An excellent album for every mood you are in, and definitely worth buying!

It was worth the wait!,

Paulina's fans have waited for this for a few years and it's been worth it. I first heard her new CD in Mexico and I had to but it before leaving. I love the song "lo hare por ti" and "yo sigo aqui." Paulina made a modern day mariachi song called "el ultimo adios" that is amazing. The song called "cancun y yo" is a beautiful ballad written by the great Juan Gabriel and the song "vive el verano" is a really nice dance song. Her CD is a mix of rhythms and there's something for everyone. Her voice sounds so beautiful in her new CD and I highly recommend this to everyone!

I admit to saying "Border Girl" was as good as this and I have to correct myself now and say it's not. "Paulina" is a much better album both vocally for Paulina and for me to listen to. Her voice is just awesome on "Tal Vez" and the irresistable latin beats that drench the whole album are to die for!LO HARÉ POR TI- excellent smooth vocals and a very catchy chorus. 8/10 ULTIMO ADIÓS- beautiful slow song. 8/10 TAL VEZ- incredible ballad with sweet vocals. 9/10 Y YO SIGO AQUÍ- sugary dance track. 7/10 SIN AIRE- another fast and wild track. 7/10 TAN SOLA- a bit boring but still nice. 5/10 SEXI DANCE- the lyrics aren't very good but has an excellent beat. 8/10 CANCÚN Y YO- again slightly boring but definitely not bad. 6/10 MÍRAME A LOS OJOS- excellent track with a very Santana sound. 9/10 YO NO SOY ESA MUJER- very rock influenced track. 7/10 VIVE EL VERANO- Lively and groovy Latin summer sound- I love it! 10/10

Buy it for "Ultimo Adios", if nothing else,

It's a great album. Most who buy it will probably recognize "Lo Hare Por Ti" and "Y Yo Sigo Aqui" from clubs and radio airplay. The one added gem is "Ultimo Adios", a rhythmic ballad of sorts, which gets away from the Latin dance tunes and gives Paulina a stage to perform more traditional, and more compelling Latin material.

The best latin cd in years.,

Paulina Rubio is one of those special artists that have a mix of talent and beauty. "Paulina" is an album that took two years to be made, after her last producton "Planeta Paulina", almost 4 years before this one, Paulina decided to change her record company because she wasn't able to do the kind of music that she wanted and becuase of that too her career started to descend, so she felt that she had to have a totally new comeback, that's when she changed her label company and called Estefeno (one of the most important latin producers who works with singers such as: Thalia and Chayanne)so when the album was ready, the first single was "LO HARE POR TI" a pop song with a great rhythm and lyrics, the song became an instant hit in America and Spain, and with this big impact Paulina's company decided to edit the album in Spain (the first in Paulina's carreer until that time), but this is just the bigging, "lo hare por ti" became also a #1 hit in Italy (then she was invited to the 2001 San Remo Festival)something rare for a country where you can only listen to music whether in Italian or English. The second single was the hip-hop ranchera "EL ULTIMO ADIOS" which was also a hit in both continents. The biggest hit of this album was the third single "Y YO SIGO AQUI" a great dance song. The other singles were "YO NO SOY ESA MUJER" another big hit in America, topping almost every chart list. "TAL VEZ, QUIZAS" was the last single, this song was written by Armando Manzanero, there's another great song, and I must say that was a pity that was never realesed as a single, the song is "CANCUN Y YO", this beautiful soft ballad was written by singer/songwritter Juan Gabriel. There was another single that was only realesed in Spain, the song was "VIVE EL VERANO" and became #1. Thanks to this album Paulina got 4 Grammy nominations, won 2 "Lo nuestro" awards in the "Best female album" category in 2000 and 2001, she also won Jennifer Lopez in an award ceremony, the award was a "Premio Amigo" for "Best female artist". "Paulina" was certified Platinum and Multi-Platinum x5 in the US, Multi-Platinum x2 in Spain, Platinum x2 in Italy and Multi-Platinum x5 in mexico and Gold or Platinum in: Peru, Chile, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Argentina and Uruguay. "Paulina" reached #1 in the US and Mexico, #2 in Spain and the Top 10 in other countries, this are just the peaks but "Paulina" was the best selling album in the US, mexico and Spain in 2001 Thanks to this album Paulina was able to realese her latest album to date "Border Girl", her first one in English and she's also considerated the latest Latin Diva and other people say that she's the next Madonna.

much more than the average pop album,

I first saw Paulina in early 2001 when our tv started picking up a Latin video station. I came in the room and there was this beautiful young lady singing "Lo Hare por Ti", the song was so catchy and she had so much charisma. Next they showed "Y yo sigo aqui" and I thought "who's this? she's even hotter than the last girl!" Then I found out they were both her songs and I was HOOKED. My roomate got me the CD because I talked about her all the time and I was blown away. It's been almost two years since I got it and I still listen to it alot. I especially like the tracks by Estefano- he must be some kind of Mozart or something because every song is a killer. This album is great. Original, catchy, and she is very unique and sounds alot more intelligent than your average pop star.

This album is a MUST HAVE!,

I first heard Paulina Rubio's "Y Yo Sigo Aqui" playing at my favourite club in my hometown, and I was totally hooked on it. I FINALLY got around to picking up this cd, and let me tell you, I'm floored by it. I've had it for a mere 3 days, and I think i've listened to it about 50 times, start to finish. I have nothing but good things to say about this cd. The sounds are all over the place, but everything flows together at the same time. "Sin Aire" sounds like a Latin No Doubt song, awesome ballads such as "Tal Vez, Quiza" and "El Ultimo Adios" are surely run away hits. "Y Yo Sigo Aqui" is the best track on the cd, a pounding club cut that deserves international attention. "Vive el Verano" is Latin Pop at it's finest, and "Sexi Dance" is just that... sexy as hell. Paulina's voice is smooth one song, gritty the next. It's a beautiful collection of great tunes. Everyone should own this cd.
